hi. iam really not conviced with the usage of this sentence,'sachin is god of cricket". fine he has made country proud, good sports person, extremely talented, incomparable etc.then also, is it correct to call any normal human being a "GOD". the word "god' has alltogether different meaning and its significance for all people. can you clarify , why such statements are used , in what context this is relevant?

hi. no doubt that, sachin is 'the best' in cricket. but calling god of cricker is not acceptable. 1) we don't say "mother teresa is goddess of humanity" 2) we don't say parents are god 3) we don't say "that person is god of medicine/physics/mathematics/ politics etc... we always say that- parents are like god or anyone with good qualities we say 'paerson is like a god' - its always "like a god." we don't say 'we respect god', we say we have a faith in god..a person cannot be god (of any specialized field for that matter) , but he can be like a god( by attaining excellence in his choosen field or by just being good human being)

yes in my country too we called someone here as god for doing great thing as they considered them as the highest rank in that field. but i dont think its appropriate to say god as theres only one god i believe and thats the god whom i havent seen. maybe they can use the words the ultimate, the great or the the number one but not god.

Hi friend i am with you because i to dont believe to call a person god. Because god made us and we dont have any right to creat god. We cannot creat an image of god. In case of "sachin as a good crickter", god had made him that capable that he has achieved good posssition in cricket. But we cannot say that he is god. Friend i to dont know why people are using such kind of sentences.

Is just a way of calling, regardless what you call him, he is still human, he can't be god even he wants to. If he excels in certain field, that no other human being can achieve the same level, be a god of that field is not unrealistic. The ancients worshiped many things as gods, today we are like gods to them. Is a matter of achieve certain level of sighificance to define our place in the world. We today still worship many gods in many religons, many can say on god is greater than another, but in the end it does really matter, you don't see the gods shake their heads on your petty arguments. The calling for the ones that display truly remarkable skills is not a overstatement, they have the skill we can't achieve, they have proved themselves that they deserve such title. In the end, a title is just a title, it doesn't really give one any real power, others won't worship them, and certainly won't build shrines for them, so let them be called whatever people want to call them

A person can never be GOD and no one can claim to be GOD.

hi smita, JESUS was a human being like us,but still he is prayed like a God for his infinite capacity of taking pain.He was devoted to the upliftment of human mind.Likewise,Sachin was there for the unification and mental upliftment of Indian players, when the players remain within the shell.Remember the matches in which Sachin smashed the opponents almost single handedly. He deserves to be called God of cricket considering all his dedication devotion and commitment to Indian or rather the world of cricket.

Even i dont like to refer anyone as a God. well i agree that some people are extra ordinary in their respective fields but it doesnt means that they shoudl be termed as God.

To me the word GOD is not a name. It is not even a title. It is an abbreviation of a Generating, Organizing and Disciplinary principle, which rules the world. It is an energy, which Generates everything. It then assumes the responsibility to Organize it. Then it disciplines everything and destroys things, which it finds unworthy. Since this principle is visible in everything, which is 'generated', 'organized' and 'disciplined', we call it Omnipresent, Omniscient and Omnipresent. Since it is neither a name, nor a title but a principle none we can call as God. Those who call someone a GOD do not know what God is.

When we want to express our profound respect and gratitude we use such statement. Ideally its is not fair to call anybosyas GOD. But sachin is referred to as GOD of CRICKET. That itself shows he is not GOD but GOD of of cricket, meaning thereby supreme person in cricket. Go by spirit of the phrase, do not go for dictionary meaning. :)

Of course it is NOT correct to tell anyone that he is a god, or when you make anyone your idol. There is only one God, and no human being can ever compare to Him. No human being created earth and other human beings and creations.

Answer is NO.. We cannot give that credit to a human person. God is God, infinite and Supreme. Human has limitations and has endings, we do die. So the word god will probably a small letter g among the earth will, but the divinity will never be allowed to be use to a human. He may be entitled to be the Best Cricket player or the Outstanding Cricket Player. I don't think the word G__ will fit to him , as what the other member said, it will be blasphemy.

A god is not a person so technically you can't call someone a god. It borders on being descriptive into being blasphemous. There are a lot more adjectives to use rather than calling someone "god" to say that someone is great in something.

I do not see anything wrong in this, this is affection and love of the cricket fans for Sachin. we have seen in many movies when lover says GOD to his/her partner. Is that also bad? I love my mother and she is god for me and that is totally fine. If I can see god in my mother people are seeing god in sachin and that is not bad at all. Thank You Sachin for the Great cricket.

calling person a GOD is definitely not appropiate.. person is something that created by GOD. although this person is so good, we can give him the other name beside GOD.
