Nope, totally disagree.
When I left home 12 years ago, I fell out of touch with many of my high school friends, and have found many of them on Facebook. My best friend moved north 14 years ago, and neither of us can call long distance, so using Facebook is the best thing that has happened for us.
If it weren't for Facebook, I wouldn't have found a few interesting programs to join, ones that aren't known anywhere else, nor would I have so many online friends.
Referrals on sites are just names or numbers, on Facebook they are real people, not referrals.
I use many of the apps offered there, it's a way to relax on stressful days.
I don't use Myspace or Twitter or anything like that, only Facebook. I wouldn't have it any other way.

It depends on how much time you're spending there and what you are doing there in the first place.
Though Facebook and these social networking sites prove to narrow the distance between friends, acquaintances and family/relatives, it could also be a source of waste of time since all you do is to update your status and play those monotonously addicting games that you can't stand but to go back to.
For me, Facebook is mostly a 'waste of time' kind of a site. It's just a fad and sooner or later people will grow tired of it. Which is why Facebook company is doing everything they can to keep the interest of people aflame. It is a waste of time since instead of doing something productive, you end up spending more than a few minutes just to look in other people's photos, read the messages (which usually doesn't concern you at all) or simply doing those games.
Don't get me wrong. I like the Facebook interface, but I always find myself regretting for spending more time there than I should. There are even days when I try to avoid logging in, because I know I would over-spend time there and I'd regret.
