Why do Alaskans eat more Ice Cream in the Winter than in the summer? Anyone have any guesses or thoughts? I am an Alaskan and I love Ice Cream. I think I know the answer, but I wanted to see what others thought before I shared my idea. Any other Alaskans out there that know?

really? you eat ice cream in winter? really???? maybe you want to feel colder. and by summer, you want to feel a little warmer. so a cold treat will not matter in cold temperature.
i don't have any idea. so what's the reason?

I think that it is simple why we eat more ice cream in the winter. My first winter in Alaska, I noticed that I gained about 10 pounds. In the summer, fortunately, I lost about 10 pounds. We have long - cold winters here and I think that it is instinctive to eat more and gain weight to help insulate our bodies. Similar to what a bear would do I guess. Ice Cream being high in fat would be an ideal food. Bears also seek a diet high in fat (salmon). Also, I think because our winters are so long, the ice cream seems to take the edge off the seasonal depression due to the lack of sunlight.
What do you think of that theory?
Maybe too much time thinking about ICE CREAM!
Fun
