if your house is on fire, what's the first thing you'll save?

March is our fire-prevention month here in our country. If our house is caught on fire, (which I HOPE would not happen) I will probably save first my important documents and memorabilia. Because they could never be replaced. clothes, shoes, housewares can be bought again, but you can't get another memorabilia. that's my answer.
How about you, if your house is on fire, what's the first THING you'll save?

Other than making sure that my family (including my pets) is out safe, I would not worry about much. All important documents are in a fire proof safe, which I recommend everyone invest in one. You can get the smallest of them for less than $50.00 and even if your entire house was to burn down this box would withstand the heat. The fire department would find the box and return all of your important documents safely. Or if you have a chance you can easily grab it on your way out and have it with you.
Material items can be replaced and as much as I would miss some of my memoriblia, it is not worth risking my life or anyone elses to save it.

Hi tessah,
of course, a loved one is a top priority. but I want to know what's the THING you'll save aside from a loved one? I do appreciate your fast response.

there really isnt any "thing" thatd be worth taking the time to go get and putting my life at risk to get it. id get the living out as quickly as possible.. and if i were alone in the house.. id just get out. not really worth the possible self incincerations to grab material objects is it?

Of course, why would you risk yourself to save a material thing. I see your point. Thanks.

Assuming I was home alone I would get my pets out then grab my purse, documents out of the safe and as much out of two cabniets that have our deceased families items that I could..

If I am the one left alone in the house & the situation is not that worst then I will save my important documents like passports, original documents, etc., which I stored together in one bag. If my son is around then I will save him first & do everything to save him no matter what it takes for life is irreplaceable when its lost it means forever & there's nothing we can do to bring it back.

Hi happy,
of course, a loved one will be and always be our priority when saving. Life is irreplaceable and we only have one shot. I raised my question for the thing you'll save, and it is important documents. I agree. Thanks for sharing.

hi! i hope it will never happen, but if there is a case like that, and I have to take only one thing, and I also think that I will not able to take more, the first thing that i am going to take are my photo albums and the CD's and DVD's with my digital photos and movies, because these are my memories and for me, there is nothing more important than it, except the family and the friends of course :)

Hi phoenix,
Yes we're on the same wavelength. I would save first my memorabilia like photo albums and cds containing digital pictures and important documents because they could never be replaced. ;)

If God forbid my house were to catch on fire the only things that I will be concerned about would be my two kids and my fiance. Everything else can just burn, as they can be replaced. I would never be able to live with the guilt if I at least did not try to rescue them.

Home on fire,
I would check whether my family members are safe or not after that it might be anything i get my hand on,
That s the way things really are , i dont suppose anyone would put the life of his/her family members before materialistic stuff??

I really cannot figure out in my head which one thing I would grab when I see that the house is burning. I guess it would not be just one thing but everything I can carry along while running for my life. One would be my bag with my wallet and important stuff I bring daily. Then I would definitely bring clothes with me. Whatever I can grab. It made me think to have a bag prepared at all times just in case that happens ever. I would definitely bring my laptop as well. So it would definitely be hard to just think of bringing one item out of a burning house knowing these are the things you have precious to you.

Myself. Definitely. Hahaha. well, I think it's hard to say, cause of course, you would be in panic, and of course, you'll try to save the living things first, like your family and pets. Then, if the fire is still quite controlled, or is far from the door, maybe you could try to save things that are not directly in front or near the fire, cause honestly, that's the only things you can really save. hehehe.

Hi OP,
It will always be the important documents, pictures, certificates... and of course our lives. the appliances, furnitures, clothes, etc. can be replaced but those documents, pictures, certificates will never be replaced!

First would be my 5 month old baby of course. Then, if I still have time just like you I would save our important documents.

ill save my picture albums. for me, we can always buy new laptops, phones, tv or what so ever but the pictures, its timeless. i will also try to save important documents like birth certificates, identification cards, school papers etc. so in conclusion if ever our house is on fire, ill try to save the more important things than those expensive things we have. but let us pray that it wont happen to any of us. God bless us all :)

Under that circumstances, I believe I couldn't think of anything material to save first. As a Mum, my kids are the most precious thing I have. So by impulse and all they will be the first thing that I will grab and will be making sure out of danger. I don't care about anything else.
If, I have much time, then, I can very well take with me my ATM cards.THey will come handy during that kind of emergency.:-)

I bring my son out and in safety first before trying to save other things... Honestly, I cannot think of anything, maybe whatever is near my reach, all and everything I can get AFTER SECURING MY SON AND OTHER RELATIVES and my dog... But would definitely get my wallet, other important documents like house and lot title,certificates... anyway it is compiled in one big organizer...

hopefully, that sordid thing won't happen. i do everything i can to prevent things like that. check on electrical wirings, make sure appliances are disconnected before hitting the sack and many more routines that would ensure that my house is safe from fire. but if that happens in your house and you are there, you'll surely be the first one i'll save...
