My mother-in-law told me to brush my son's teeth when he has 8 teeth. He is one year old, and he has 6 teeth now, so I went to baby shop and checked out the toothbrush just now. I just noticed that there are toothbrush for newborn babies. They are not really brushes, but some similar tools to help pressing the baby's gum, so that it can relieve the teething discomfort.
When do you start brushing your baby's teeth? Also when does your baby start using toothpaste? What brand of toothbrush and toothpaste does your baby use?

With my children, I started massaging their gums from the time that it seemed like they were starting to teethe. At that point I used those little brush things that you wear on your finger. I figured this would help to ease their teething pain and it also got them used to having something in their mouths that wasn't a nipple. When they cut their first teeth I started using a soft toothbrush on their first teeth with just water. At two years old I started allowing the children to use the Oral-Gel training toothpaste. I've just now starting allowing my son to use regular toothpaste and he is now almost 3.5 years old.

From the time the child is born, we give bath to the child periodically, like every alternate day or whatever is the practice. At that time, we clean the mouth by our finger. Once the child starts getting teeth, we brush with baby brush and baby paste and clean with our fingers. When the child is eight months old, we allow it to brush on it's own with our guidance.

I started rubbing my daughter's gums as soon as she was a couple of weeks old. Then we got the little brush with bumps that is good for massaging the gums. We've progressed through flouride free toothpaste to kid's toothpaste (my daughter is 3 now) and she also likes to floss. I got her those little floss stick things. She doesn't really floss very well but she likes to copy me and I encourage the habit. We made our first trip to the dentist when she was two, just to get her used to the idea. My husband had a check up while we watched and then the dentist did a quick look in her mouth after he let her examine some of the tools. He even put sunglasses on her so the examination light didn't bother her eyes.

I can't remember how young was my daughter when I first toothbrushed her teeth using a cloth. What I know is we can brush an infant's teeth by using our finger wrapped with a clean thin cloth. We just have to rub it on their gums and tongue to clean some milk residues that is left.

This all depends. I have a 2 and half year old with ALL her teeth now, and we brush them almost every night...but she also likes to brush her teeth. I started to brush her teeth once they started to come in and when it didn't hurt with the rest of them coming in. They do have the kits in the stores that have the "gum brush" along with advanced brushing items. A lot of professionals would say once they start to get their teeth, they need to start to see the dentist and everything, which I thought was a little much. So, I say as long as it doesn't bother him to brush his teeth, go ahead and start doing it in the evening time to start to get him in the habit. If you look in the toothbrush/tothpaste isle in the stores, they will have a childrens section and they have toddler toothpaste by Oralgel. As long as it doesn't have floride in it, it will be safe to use. I started the toothpaste when she was around 18 months old.

It has been quite some while when my 9 yr old son was still a baby. To be honest I have forgotten completely on whether we did brush his teeth or not. However I have found the following information regarding your questions.
When do you start brushing your baby's teeth?
Most dentists recommend cleaning a baby's gums even before he starts teething. Although bacteria are unlikely to damage the gums at this age, wiping the gums with a wet cloth wrapped around a finger will accustom the baby to the cleaning process.
Also when does your baby start using toothpaste? What brand of toothbrush and toothpaste does your baby use?
Small, soft-bristled brushes are available, as well as ridged rubber toothbrushes. It is not recommended to use an electric toothbrush for babies. Let the baby suck and chew on the toothbrush to become familiar with it.
At this stage, toothpaste is neither required nor recommended. Babies swallow rather than spit, and ingesting too much fluoride has been linked to a number of health problems including fluoridosis – white spots on adult teeth in later years

I have two children and when the were babies after they would drink formula or juice especially before bed I would moistened a baby wash cloth with regular water and wipe/rub their gums, Then I began to use a fluoride free toothpaste and toothbrush as soon as their first tooth broke through their gums. My dentist says that kids should see a dentist when they get their first tooth.

as soon as a baby has a tooth, it's a good idea to start getting them used to having it brushed.
I used to be a dental nurse, and mostly worked with the hygienist, so dental hygiene and gum health is sort of my area of interest.
as young as you can get a baby used to the idea of putting a toothbrush in their mouth, start it. even if there's no teeth, it makes it easier for them to deal with it when they need their teeth brushed. and as soon as a tooth shows up it should be brushed.

my wife bought a silicon brush when our child was still young. it is very soft and its like a brush for the gums. i am not sure if she used that. but when our child had four teeth she bought a brush again and let our son play with the brush three times day. our son bit the brush and i can see that his teeth gets clean just doing it. when he turned one the pedia didnt advice yet to use toothpaste but she said we can start teaching him to brush his teeth. so he was brushing but no toothpaste yet. but before that he was used to brushing already for my wife lets him play with his toothbrush. when he turned two we started brushing his teeth with toothpaste but with a very small size only. now he is four he has good teeth. i guess you still need to ask your doctor.... i just shared what we did... well what my wife did har har har

I have been brushing all 3 of my kids since they could open their mouths even when they had no teeth.
all 3 of my kids now brush their teeth automatically without me having to ask as its all they have known first thing in morning and when they have a bath they get the teeth cleaned.

My daughter is now 5, and I think she started brushing her teeth (sort of) as soon as she could hold a toothbrush! She got her teeth late, and I believe she started doing the motions before she had many teeth. In our old place, her crib area was right in front of the bathroom door . . . so if the door was open, she could brush her teeth. So for the heck of it, we gave her a toothbrush, and she always copied us, brushing teeth in her crib when we did!! No toothpaste at that time though. I actually bought those rubbery thimble looking toothbrush for the gums for her, but I never used them. I can't remember when she started using toothpaste, but we've always used - and still use - Orajel - the kids toothpaste (I think it'd toddler training) with no fluoride so it's not a big deal if they swallow it. I have another baby now . . . and I still debating whether or not to use those rubbery thimble looking ones on his gums.

I started brushing my kids teeth before they even popped through too. It was just to get them used to using a brush and the sensations of brushing teeth. As for toothpaste, you can buy baby toothpaste from most chemists and supermarkets now along side regular toothpastes.
The little toothbrush we have at the moment is a non branded one that I got from the chemist. It has a reallt small head, soft bristles and an easy grip handle. I think the toothpaste we use is the Spanish equivalent if colgate.
My daughter is almost two and requires little help with brushing her teeth now. She loves to do it on her own but I still have to master the spitting out part!

I started to brush my daughter's teeth when she was almost 2years old because I was afraid that she will swallow the toothpaste and do her harm in her stomach. Even after 2years of age she did not understand what the concept was about, for example she wanted to remain with the toothbrush in her mouth for about half a nhour, and she did not understand that she should spit out the water. Anyway, I think it is nuisance to start brushing childrens teeth before 2years.

I started with mine as soon as those first teeth came in using a wet cloth as suggested by their doctor and when they got a bit older about 1 years old I used a dab of Baby orajel on a q tip because the doctor said it was gentler.

Start immediately with the brushing habit. It is good to clean the gums as well as the teeth he has. Be careful in using toothpaste that is made for adult though. This should not be swallowed and there is no way to prevent him from doing so. They do make special toothpaste for infants and toddlers that is not harmful if swallowed. Check out your local pharmacy to see what is available in your area.

I brushed my daughters teeth since the day she was born. I used a finger brush and fluoride free baby toothpaste. Brushing their gums keeps the sugar off of them, which can cause rotten teeth to grow.
You should get a fluoride free baby or child tooth paste and start brushing right away.

we did ours quite soon after the first ones appeared.
You don't really need to be very long doing them, it is mainly to get them used to it.
Well unless your baby eats sticky chewy sweets in which case you would have to be a bit more thorough.
I let them choose their own baby toothbrush when we were at the chemist so they would be excited about using it and it being their own.
We bought baby toothpaste.I think it was colgate but it was quite mild tasting.
I let mine clean their own as soon as they wanted to providing I could check how well they had done afterwards.

I know that the care for the teeth must start with the growing of the first tooth.
My boy is 2.5 years old and I still can't brush his teeths or can't make him brush them. He just doesn't want to and moves his head to avoid the brush or just run away.
I know that for babies and children it's the best to use a paste without fluor. Because they can't spit the paste, but swallow it.
Also for babies there are some tool that the parent put on his/her finger and gently massage the teeth.
