I have 200 giga hard drive but i soon bought a 500 giga usb called wd mybook. After a few months I gave it to my father with all the music i had and he contributed to the purchase of 1000 giga usb that i have now. I still have 250 gigs of space and i bet if i would delete some stupid movies i could have 500 again. How much space do you have? Mybook is so simple you don't really need any software you just plug it in and it's working so i like it a lot. The funny thing is that i only have a usb for 750mb and one for 1000 giga:P

I have a 500GB hard Drive and well I don't really need an external hard drive because of the Operating System that I am running is really stable and has such a small footprint on the hard drive. My music is the biggest group of files on my computer. I have about 600+ songs and well my software dev software doesn't even come close to taking more space than them even some of the programming projects that I am developing don't even come close to taking more space than my music. I love how slim my Operating System and Applications are.

What do you program? I am just starting to learn some visual basic but i do know how to program sites in dreamweawer if that can be called programming at all. And about your music do you have 600 or 6000? I'm asking because i have around 24000 and on a 500g disc i would expect a little more music. I also love to keep my operating system as tidy and small as i can and i've managed to do so for five years now. That's also why i love external hard drives because you don't have mess where your system is.

I program in Python, C++, GAMBAS (Linux version of Visual Basic), PHP, HTML, JAVA. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 so yeah I have a small OS and well I haven't had the need for an external Storage device because Ubuntu/Linux are small operating systems and well Open Source Software also leave a small footprint on your system. I love my Open Source Software. I am an Open Source Developer/user so yeah I don't really mess with either MAC or Windows much anymore.

I also installed linux because i needed it for school and it's amazing. It has so many options that i'm sure it's even more useful than windows if you are prepared to explore it. And the fact that it is free is also great. I think everything on internet should be free and it's an almost unreachable goal but some rules are really bad for someone who wants to create something. Thank you for your reply, have a great day!

I ahve 500 Gigabytes and I think it is completely enough for everythink. I use approximately 200 for movies and other media because I have a lot on my discspace...incuding downloaded videos and TV shows, 100 GB for Games and entertainment, maybe I have music I downloaded and it is around 10 GB, so i think more that 500 Gb harddisk is more than enough for using at home!!!

You're wright my first usb was 500 giga and if i would delete the movies that aren't even worth watching on my 1 tera usb i bet i would use around 500 giga of space. I do have 300giga of music but i have less games than you. Thank you for your comment, have a nice day!

I have 160 gigs western digital hard drive. I bought 1 more hard disk of 500 gigs seagate few months ago. i think right now its enough for me. But I am seriously thinking about buying a 2 terabyte hard drive but the cost is really too high right now. My music collection is increasing day by day and I really need to collect money as soon as possible.

Good thing prices drop quickly for hard drives. I bought my 500 giga for 110€ and like 4 months later i bought 1000 giga for 105€. You must have loads of music. I have around 300 giga and that is about 30000 songs i think. But it is easy to fill space with movies. Thanks for your comment.

Mine is 250GB and it is really enough for me. I've used only 1/5 of its space.
