There is a craft site that is encouraging everyone to pick one night a week and

make it craft night. That's an interesting concept. For people that have an hour every day that they craft, that would be a step backward. For people like my Aunt (when she was alive) who knitted all day long, that would have been a step way back. But for those of us who have a hard time fitting crafting into our lives, it's an interesting concert. For people who craft for a living, that wouldn't have much appeal either. So where on the continuum for crafting are you? 8 to 10 hours a day, an hour or two a day, etc. through to get crafting in once a week or a month? Does one craft night a week sound like a good idea to you? Would it be a step backward or a step forward? What kinds of craft(s) would you do once a week? Would it be the same crafts or would you try different ones? Would you research new ones or research improving on what you do or not research, but try to improve on what you do?

Every night of my life is a craft night! Every day I either make something, write about making something, teach how to make something or a combination thereof. What site is this?

That sounds interesting. Can a person get to your blog from your profile?

For my self it a step backward, I am occasional crocheter ( when I am in the mood or I see gorgeous crochet handbag. I will try to make one as my own). I like to learn knit too, I think i will be nice craft to combine with crochet.

Yes, for some people it is a step backward. I think the idea is more for someone like me who gets behind or for having a family craft night. Knitting and crocheting are cool. What kinds of things do you make?

That's great! I look forward to seeing your pictures of your bags when you have enough posts to be able to put one on here. Thanks for your response and welcome to Mylot!

I think it is a great concept. I am a beader & when our little ones are older hope to be able to invest more time into it, but for now evenings is the only time I can. Sometimes it's every night for weeks, othertimes it will be weeks. If our chikldren are sick or our youngest is teething etc the beads are completely forgotton about. If I ead for 3 hours in one go that is a big session. It's generally a 12hour-1hour, so takes me a week to make something. I would love to set 1 time once a week but its difficult right now because any time I have is dictated by my kids :)

well, I craft when I take my mom to her Great Course's program, I really enjoy the programs too, and, in fact, if mom isn't up to going, I will go and then go back after to check on her. We did Rome, a visual history since the first of the year, next its the Vikings! I have the patterns, and the floss! just need to set up to start working on them. I want to also do a shirt for my sister and my mom for Christmas. Setting aside a night a week for crafting would be a step forward - again, tho I did put about 4 hours in on Sat for crafting

Sure sounds like a good idea to me. I haven't done any crafting in a very very long time! Yeah, I'm on my computer these days, and for sure addicted to it LOL. If there is crafting activity I'd like to do, it's making polymer clay jewelry. But I would need specific materials for it, and right now, I'm considering getting them. But stuff like polymer clay is pretty hard to find where I live, but I will be going on a trip soon, and I'll make sure I'll search around for polymer clay. I wish I could order it online, but shipping is so expensive. So in the meantime, I watch tutorial videos online. It would be more awesome to actually get to do them along with the video, but for now, that will be my preparation for my future craft night!

I do different crafts according to the season and the mood I'm in, and I craft usually two to three times a week, sometimes more and sometimes less. I don't think choosing one day a week would work for me even if I only crafted one day a week because I like to do it when I'm in the mood, not when "it's time."

It's not a great idea for everyone. I'm sure it came from the idea of game family night. Where everyone turns off the tv and plays board games. One night a week to connect with family. So they were trying to extend it to family night. For some people that would be great and for some it would not be. Like you said, some people would not be in the mood and like I said, for some people it would be "backing up." Thanks and take care.

I basically knit constantly. Just in the little gaps of time I make like if I am waiting for an appointment or have woken up early or am watching a tv show. I wouldn't be able to do a specific craft night because it would be in the way of work.

I think the suggestion works best for people who can't fit in crafting as you have already found a way, or for people who are in families that need a night together like game night was suggested years ago. But it sounds like you've found a neat way to get it altogether. Yours are also good suggestions for getting crafts done that would work for some people.Portable crafts could be done while waiting for appointments and most crafts could be done during either tv shows or at least the commercials. Thanks for the suggestions and take care.

Doing a craft one night a week won't always work for me if I choose a certain night. I babysit our grandbaby on a regular basis which is sometimes at night and can't do a craft and take care of a baby. The schedule changes weekly. However, I do work on my plastic canvas crafts anytime I have free time. My problem is that I don't vary my craft. Example: if I start doing something "Sesame Street" I will continue on with the same project for months until I get sick of looking at it. For those who earn a living crafting, don't think working one night a week will profit unless the craft is quick and simple. Interesting discussion here.

Yeah, I think it works mostly for people who can't fit in a craft or people who have families all of a crafting age. So it works for a specific couple of groups of people. All the rest, it doesn't seem to work for. Thanks and take care.

For me, that would be a step forward. I often feel that I am glued to the computer, and it is not always for things that I want to do. I have huge freelance assignments. Today on the phone my daughter encouraged me to quit the contractor I have been going through and to go to another site where I have membership. I would at least be able to choose my topics. I was also offered two part time jobs today, maybe. I have actually gotten the sewing machine out and sewn some things, just simple seaming, more or less, this week. I would like to make and use some plarn, and some T shirt yarn. I have a crocheted baby blanket in process, has been for a year. I have some nifty knitters. I have a dozen crafts that I would like to do. At least two thirds of them would deal with recycled materials. One Christmas I decorated recycled cans and filled them with homemade things for gifts. I do not know if I ever posted pictures. They were really cute.

That all sounds really cool! Yeah 1 hour to one evening a week would definitely help you. I'm glad you're getting all these opportunities. I'm starting to get some, too.

Good morning...I think you could have started ten discussions with this, dear lady..so I know I will miss answering some. Crafting is a very hit and miss thing with me, with NO specific schedule...I DO NOT craft on schedule because I find that if it is a scheduled event, I may just NOT be in the mood..my heart isn't in it and it is reflected in the results..or lack of..LOL! I always have enough alternative crafts on the go..that one will intrigue me, when I have down time. And of course, my crafting is seasonal, much more in the winter, than spring and summer..as that time leans heavily towards gardening. Alot of my time is spent at "pergamano"...knitting, watercolouring, sewing! As I said, above, I don't like crafting under pressure...like having to spend all those hours finishing that knitted blanket for Christmas...that's when I make my mistakes, and have to rip out and re-do! I guess you would say, I am not a dedicated crafter..nor could I commit to dedicated times. Take care...and have a great weekend!

I think it is a great idea..wonderful...yet, it would be NO good for me to be disciplined about my crafts~~~~as you say, my creativity would be out the window. I guess you would call me an "urge" crafter. Cheers!

My Mom used to go to a craft class once a week. She loved it. I think it's more for a family craft night or people like my Mom who did it as a social thing. For me it would work out better because I wouldn't have 6 Christmas projects all running in December with no way to finish them unless I stay up all night Christmas eve. But it's not for everyone. I just went from not crafting much for years to making crafts for birthdays, holidays, and Christmas, so it's becoming a time crunch. But if I was still doing it only when the spirit hit me once in a great while (but now I could see it hitting me once a day, not like once every few months like before-must be all that visiting etsy.com), I can see why it's not for you. The idea is not for everyone. It depends on where you are with your crafting. About 1/3 are in a space where it would work and about 1/3 it would be backing up and 1/3 it would mess with their creativity. But it's out there as an idea for people who need it. Thanks and have a great weekend, too!

I would actually take the chance to do what I like to do. I might eventually try new things but my particular carft is still fairly new to me. I like to oil paint. I haven't had a chance to do it since November and I miss it alot.

Then it sounds like setting aside some time each week might be good for you. But hard to do, too. Since if you do oils for landscaping, the light needs to be just right. I knew an oil painting artist. I met her on a beach. She had injured her hands in an accident. They had her try painting in rehab. After rehab, she would go to the beach every day that the sun was shining and paint a different scene. It's amazing how many different scenes you can get from one spot. Beach with people one it, beach without, island on the left with no boats in the water, island on the left with boats in the water, mountains in the middle with no one in the water, mountains in the middle with people swimming and/or boats and the boats can change every day, campers on the right with woods and water or no campers or leave the water out. Every summer she would go two weeks one place, two weeks another, etc. Hope for great weather and paint as much as she could of each place. She seemed so at peace and so happy. I was a teenager then and she was elderly. Thanks for the memories, I hope you get back to it!
