Do you have one? There have been so many songs written and performed about New York City. Billy Joel's New York State of Mind...the classic "New York, New York" from the musical On The Town......Alicia Keyes latest offering...."Downtown" performed by Petula Clark....Barry Mannilow's "Brooklyn Boogie". "If you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere. It's up to YOU. New York, New York" Which song sums up NYC to you or how you envision NYC?

i would have to say New York by Frank Sinatra and New York State of Mind by Billy Joel. (I love Billy Joel's stuff anyways, especially Allentown.)

Sinatra's version of that song is absolutely an iconic representation. So many have sung it...Liza Minnelli comes to mind...but it's "his" song. I'm a huge Joel fan too....New York State of Mind is one of those songs that sticks in my head, whether it's his version or Streisand's. Have you been to NY? Do the lyrics hold true to their representation in your viewpoint? Do they stir any feelings? For me, having lived there for 10 years, they all give me a swell of emotion about the place.

I absolutely love that song! Not necessary the rap part but definitely the Alicia Keys part. Excellent choice!
