i think you should buy a new one better than older, after buying if you face problem then it will be your loss.

If iy hasno problem then you may go ahead with the purchase. Nevertheless it is not recommended to do so since the laptop in question is more than 3 years old. Bear in mind that laptops generally do not last long as desktops. Old models generate more heat, thus wearing down the components quicker. The HDD capacity is smaller than what can be ogtained now, and so do the RAM. I believe many of the components are nearing the end of their usefulness. There is no guarantee that it will remain working fine after one year. Worse, it may die out on you after one month, as what my friend experienced.

thank you for your response, i wonder whats the life span or life capacity of the laptop coz im also thinking that since its already a 4 years old laptop the parts might also not in good condition even though it still working. specially that im not good in computer parts nor in laptop parts so im not sure if it will last even for a year with me.

The life span varies depending on the model, frequency of use, and conditions during its use. It would be alright if your friend sells it to you for a song. As a basic yardstick the value of a computer falls by at least half for each year of its life..

When buying anything second-hand you don't know what all it has been through. If your friend orgenally baught it four years ago, you could face repairs which are more costly then the laptop itself. You don't know where its been, how many times she's had to restore windows, or if she has, if there is any virouses or maleware.... and not to mention the physical ware and tear of the laptop itself. Keyboards tend to be one of the first things to go out, as well as any random buttons. So its advised you get a new laptop, because you can usually lease-to-own. If you can't afford to buy one full-price.

for me its not safe to buy a second hand laptop. though its not that expensive and will really save you money i guess for me gadgets should really be bought new and with warranty. although you can't see any problem with the laptop of your friend right now but its already an old model there'll be a problem that will arise later. like a problem with the battery, lcd, or even the parts inside it. its better to be under a warranty of the manufacturer and store that to be sorry and you bought a second hand model. and this is coming from a person who worked for a technical support for home appliances... i should know better. :) have a good one

I think its ok as long as the specifications are updated and the brand is trusted that wont tore suddenly. On my part, I have a refurbished laptop and its turning 2 years this november. It was a gift bought by my uncle and auntie's from the US. In the word refurbished, I think this is an old and also used kind of laptop but just upgraded to make it looked good as new. I love my laptop and it really helps me a lot especially whenever I connect online chatting with friends, playing and making money on some sites.

I've purchased two within two years of each other. I had a small problem with the first one and took it to be repaired and for some silly reason I bought another one. I would much rather have a new one but they are very expensive. The second hand ones are selling for too much money because people are paying the asking price. In my opinion, you should pay less than one third the original price if the machine is a couple of years old and a quarter if the machine is more than 2 years old. The only significant problem I had was the USB ports are only USB1. All the USB equipment is now USB2 and the USB1 cannot handle the speed. Also, in the first one I purchased there was no DVD burner. The second one had only one USB port. Very aggravating.

Safe or not to buy a laptop second depending on the accuracy of our in buying. Before buying better we examine first whether the laptop is still a good situation or not. If you are not familiar with laptops so you better ask someone who really understands about the laptop. If the laptop is in good condition would not be a problem.

It is never a good idea to buy a Second Hand Electronic Item. Its okay with Automobiles but never with a Laptop or even a Mobile Phone.

Both of the laptops that my husband and myself own came to us used. Well, both of them needed some significant work done to them, however, it was still a steal for us. One of them needed a new hard drive and the other needed a new motherboard. I love the fact that we were able to get them for so little money (including the money that we had to put into them). As long as you know that they don't need a lot of work, then I think there is nothing at all wrong with buying a used laptop.

Hey friend, I live in Bangladesh. The practice of buying a used laptop is a common phenomena in our country too. It's quite hard to say if it is wise to buy a used laptop PC or not. Though I've never used laptop, let alone used ones. But I've observed people who already have bought them are undergoing problems somehow and they've accepted it assuming that the used ones are not comparable to new ones, they'll have tolerate it. As to me, I don't like buying used or reconditioned goods. I always prefer to get brand new items even if I'll have to wait for long my affordability to buy it. Therefore, if you want to buy a used/reconditioned laptop PC than you'll have to stay prepared for it's drawbacks. The choice is yours. Have a great day.

It is not bad to buy a used laptop. But please make sure that you check the laptop and make sure that everything is ok with it.

Its not necessarily a bad idea but you may need to take into consideration how your friend treats their stuff. If they take very good care of it, then it may be a good deal for you, but on the other hand if they abuse their stuff, it may be in your best interest to purchase a new laptop to avoid costly repairs that you may not realize are there. Commonly the best option is to look for a refurbed model. They are as good as new, but with a lower price tag. The only difference is a refurb may have had to go back to the manufacturer for a minor issue. Do some research and you may find you can get a refurb for a better deal than what your friend is offering you.

it is like purchasing a second car. People who sell them usually have problems with it and they are selling it to replace it with a new one. I would not advice anyone to buy a second hand laptop because of it's portability. People who originally used it , carries it around and it was subjected to a lot bumps and moblity. another thing to consider is it's warranty. a good brand new-not-so-expensive laptop is the new toshiba satellite, where you have your numbers keypad on the right side like your usual PC keyboard and it only costs about $750.00, with a windows7 OS. Buy brand new,

I think it's a good idea to buy that laptop from your friend because you knew her and you knew maybe how she is careful with her things. So, you will know that second hand thing you are buying from her is not that damaged or overused.

There is no harm in it. but the problem is that very old laptops can often have many problem. they can have cd drive problem or the battery needs replaced etc. you can ask your friend if everything is working alright.

When my laptop was 4 years old I called the company's customer service and they told me they did not provide support for it any longer because of the age. You should look into computers that were returned after a short time that cannot be sold as new or computers that have been rebuilt and are being resold by the computer company.

i prefer to buy a new brand one, nowdays, a new laptop is not too expensive.most of us can be offered. on the other hand, if the laptop is a sendhand one ,thought the price is lower, but i'll afraid for the quality, to make the matter worse, this laptop is used for three years. because most parts have problem. so i suggestion to buy a new one.good luck and have a nice day!
