The question may be silly but how important is sleep in your daily life.Because I have a friend who doesn't care of sleeping. He always studies or browse internet or just hang around here and there. He will just sleep for some hours. But suddenly he will sleep the whole day like that.He is very funny guy.IF you ask me..I will sleep nearly some 8 hrs daily.I love sleeping. It makes me relax. In my home I'm the only person who sleeps for long hours. It is very important for me.I like sleeping.Whenever I woke up it keeps me fresh and in a clear mind...How about you...?

Hi Gany,
Sleep is extremely important to me. we don't have the luxury of money to spend for a break and vacation. only sleep is the most practical way to have a break from a busy day. sleep can provide us the chance to recharge energies and be ready again for another days battle.

It is very serious to me. I need at least a 7 hours on work nights and I need more (to catch up) on the weekends. Unfortunately, a certain person I am married to doesn't seem to take my need for sleep seriously enough.

He doesn't seem to need as much sleep, so he doesn't "get" it...

As you are well aware, we would not be able to function properly, without sleep.
Not only does the body need rest, but so does the mind...and even more so.
Not since my middle 20's, have I been able to sleep a full 8 hours. The most I am able to achieve nowadays, is half that much. The funny thing about it though, is that my body's internal clock is so well adjusted to this time frame, that I can with perfection, predict exactly when I will awaken.
For close to 30 years now, I have taught many students, the values of training the mind in several techniques, in order to achieve heightened awareness. What science has been able to discover through the use of these techniques, is that, even by doing a simple 15 minute meditation cycle, the human mind WILL receive the equivalent, of a full 8 hours night's sleep.
My mindset having been trained in this manner for so many years now, has undoubtedly "re-configured" itself, in that it "knows", just how much sleep or rest, my body actually needs...thereby resulting in less than that of 8 hours.
If at times when I do feel somewhat tired or can't seem to get to sleep, I simply meditate for a few moments to a half an hour, only to "re-awaken" fully revitalized, relaxed, and refreshed.

With right training, meditation is simple learn...but I do agree with you in that getting a least 8 hours of sleep is better. It is a necessary function, and I have always admired those who CAN sleep for that long a period or more. Unfortunately, my body has never been able to. If I'm able to sleep for half that much, then I feel I'm doing rather well.

Sleep is very important for overall good health, mental and physical. It is during sleep that the body heals itself. If we neglect sleep we will pay for it sooner or later. Best to go to sleep about 10 PM and get up when the body is ready to get up. We should routinely try to get about 7 hours of sleep every night. A good sleep routine is wise!

Two good things I have heard that I will share;
1) Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.
2) Always go to sleep the same day you awoke.

Sleeping is very important to me. It gives me strength and relax my body. Even I'm on car or van going to work I'll sleep. At night I sleep late but make it sure that I can do it at least 6hrs. But the best is hrs a day.

sleep is one of the most important part of our life, if not the most important, gany. there are findings that sleep allows the body not only to re-energize, but more importantly, during sleep the body repairs itself. a recent study published in the american medical journals shows that there are some kind of diseases that only a good sleep can cure. so, some doctors, just prescribe sleep-inducing medicines to put us in a state where our body repairs itself.

I am fortunate because I don't need much more than 5 hours sleep a night at the most. Sometimes I sleep even less. This started when I was in my mid-twenties. There had been a heatwave and I was just too hot to sleep and I didn't sleep for about a week. I went to the doctors and he said I seeemed OK and he didn't think there was anything to worry about, that my body would sleep when I really needed it. Well I quit worrying about it and felt a lot better and all my tiredness disappeared! I don't worry about it now and rarely feel tired. But if my friends, or my wife slept as little as I did, they tell me they would be absolutely exhausted. _Derek

Sleep is important to everyone for their good health. Recent studies have shown that a minimum of 7 hours per night is essential for good mental health. When a person doesn't sleep for long periods of time and then crashes for a full day, something is very wrong. Your friend should get medical help. Another part of sleep that is crucial to good health is dreaming. Dreams help us work out problems, get rid of bad feelings that collect during the day and make us more emotionally stable.
Hope he sees a doctor soon.

i envy your friend. i wish i didn't need much sleep as much as i do. i need at least 9 or 10 hours of sleep every night to keep my body functioning well the next day ahead. the good think about your friend is that he gets to spend more of his time doing other things, fun things or things he simply love to do, instead of sleeping. that's really an advantage i think.

Ever since I was younger I thought sleeping a few hours and staying awake longer is the way to go. I should have slept more when I was younger. Now that I have a son, I have to keep up with the hours that he sleeps in because he is an early bird. He sleeps late but always wakes up early. I have to say I realy have to learn to sleep 8 hours a day because I hardly have enough sleep for some but for my standards, I sleep okay. For as long as I wake up not too tired then I am fine with that.

sleep is very important. i need to sleep minimum 6 hours a day. my ideal is 8 hours where my body is fully rested and when i get up in the morninng , i dont feel any tiredness and i feel cheerfful. i feel vey refresh and sort of 'light', ready for the day. in the day time , i sleep about half an hour or so for my afternoon nap. its good as i dont feel tired or heavy laden. if i have to be out late, then i need more hours of sleep the next day to sort of replace the loss sleep. it works for me. sleep repairs our body. when we sleep, our body is at rest and our organs can relax and do the necessary repairs and remove toxic waste from our body. we all know that babies sleep more and they grow well with sufficient milk and food. thus sleep is an integral part of life and we should not stint on sleep and rest. even God declares Sabbath as a day of rest for both human ansd animals too.

I agree with you. Sleep is very important for me My problem is that I only sleep between 5 and 6 hours a night. I have an online job and I need the sleep because I am tired all the time. Well, lately I've been waking up earlier than expected. This does a bad thing for me. I get migraines, the kind that make you blind in some spots of the eye. These blind spots are called aura's and they flash in colors and wherever they are, I can't see. So I haven't found a medicine yet that helps me because most of the medicine is for pain and I don't have pain. Another problem with not getting enough sleep is that when I do start getting good sleep, the next day I get a migraine. I went to bed last night at 12, woke up this morning at 3:59, went back to sleep, and woke up at 6:00. I work today and my fingers are crossed that I don't get a migraine.

The typical night I will sleep about what you sleep, 7-9 hours. But I can do with less. I also can stay up all night and until the next night if I have to, and I don't get too tired doing it.

I would say sleep is a very important, naturally occurring situation. It greatly affects our performance from day to day. I myself make it a point to get an 8-hr sleep, if possible, but a 5-hr sleep will do for me and if i get the chance to sleep or nap in the middle of the day, I would. A day is composed of 24 hours and we are only required to get at least 8 hours of sleep and the rest of the day we are up on our feet, doing our job or what. If we do not have enough hours of sleep, we end up being grumpy, forgetful, absent-minded and what have you. Sp. I agree with you that a good sleep gives us a clear mind the morning after. :)

I love my sleep and rarely have trouble nodding off. I need about six hours sleep a night. If I have too much sleep, I feel really tired, which may sound silly but it's true. On the rare occasions when I find it difficult to get to sleep I either read or I listen to music on my iPod until I feel sleepy. The amount of sleep anyone needs seems to vary enormously from person to person. My mother, who is 80, swears she hardly sleeps at all but if you visit her in the evening, she's often asleep in front of the television - but that's a different story!

Interesting topic I think. I have an interesting sleep pattern as I work a lot. I sometimes slip into what I call a 4-hour sleep cycle. I will wake at 4am and go to work, come home in the afternoon and sleep from 4pm until 8pm or so, stay up until midnight or so and then sleep until 4am and start all over again. After awhile of doing the 4-hour sleep cycle, I need to take a day and just sleep a lot to 'recharge'! I do not know if it is the healthy-est, but it works for me when I am working a lot. I do not really like sleeping so much and seems like a waste of time, sometimes.
Sweet Dreams

I sleep about 7 hours a day minimum, it helps me keep concentrated and after I wake up it feels so good. Once I just slept for 2hours and I had a terrible headache lasting like 2 days.
