How old is your car? How often does it get used?

We have had our car for 10 years and it was 2 years old when we bought it.
It gets driven only 2 or 3 times in a week.
Once by me and once or twice by my husband.
It is a hatch back (compact)with 3 doors 2 in the side and the hatch at the back.
About twice a year we drive it 600 miles each way,to collect or deliver our student children to their university. Luckily they both go to the same one.
I think it is the longest we have ever had a car.
We used to have to replace our old cars about every 18 months as we could never afford one that was in good condition in the first place. Once we had a car only about 1 day as it fell apart on our way home from work.
The first car we had, cost us £50 and we bought it from my sister in law.

Wow you even know he day you bought it on!
Your car must be good and reliable.
The most reliable car we have had is the one we own now and before that we had a proton which was a bit rattly but just kept going and going.
Our worst car (not counting the one day car)was an old Morris estate car which leaked oil.

its funny how attached we can become to them.
Its always quite hard to sell them on or part exchange them even though the one we replace it with is a better one.

Personally, I have never had a car because I don't drive. However, all the cars my Dad has had have all been old. He doesn't have a car either now as he finds them far too expensive to keep on the road and he's 72 so it kinda makes sense to give up driving.
My husband, on the other hand, has had his Honda Concerto (a J reg!) since 1993! So it was virtually new as it came out in 1991. I absolutely love this car. The paintwork is brilliant on it, because it is a limited edition it's unique and has leather seats and rather decent air conditioning for the time. Granted, it is now slowly falling apart (and costs £50 a time to fill up the tank) but I prefer it to my in-laws' Peugeot 406 (2002) anyday as it's more comfortable and has character.
I will be so upset when it finally "gives up the ghost" but it will happen...one day.
The pic isn't our actual car but looks virtually identical to give you an idea of what it looks like.
It also gets John to and from work (15 miles each way) 6 days a week and has done a round trip of 200 miles to pick Mum up MANY times. As far as the engine goes; nothing wrong with it.
Touch wood! Haha!

Sounds like a lovely car.
I do like leather seats.
Ours is just a basic vauxhall corsa.
We got it when my husband was going to learn to be a driving instructor but he gave up on the idea as it was so pricey for training despite how well he was doing with the actual teaching.

Thank you! Yes, I have heard that about how expensive it is for driving instructor training. I reckon my husband would be good at that..or, better still a traffic cop on the motorway. He'd be brilliant! He'd also look extremely cute in a cops uniform.

LOL My little red wreck is a 1996 Vauxhall Corsa, still running perfectly after all these years. I rely on the car as I can't get about without it, so having it regularly serviced and cared for makes sense. I think I use the car 5 days out of 7 now, for shopping runs as well as long distance drives.

Ours is red too.
I love how easy it is to maneuver and to park.
I think it is our best car ever.
I wouldnt mind a 5 door version but 3 doors is okay.

My current car, which is actually an SUV, is 10 years old. My husband and I bought it back in October of last year. As it is the only vehicle we have at the moment it gets used all the time. My husband uses it for work and once he gets home I use it to run errands.
All of our cars have been used. The longest any of them lasted had to be the pick-up truck that we had. It went for almost 4 years before giving us any trouble. Which is pretty darn good considering we only paid $500 for it. LOL
Happy mylotting!

We had a little renault5 once that we got at the car auction for $400, it was very reliable and lasted a good couple of years before we sold it on.
We had got ourselves a little caravan and the renault just wouldn't pull it.
We only went on one holiday in the caravan as it proved too expensive in the long run.
We would have been better off not selling the renault and missing the holiday but oh well you live and learn.

My current car is just over 2 years old, and the last car I had was just under 10 years old. I do around 5000 miles in a year, not a great lot, but it is of more value to me to keep each car I have for as long as possible and then I get the best value from it even if it is worth a little less than if I had changed it earlier. _Derek

I have Audi tt, my father bought it for me 4years ago, I do not drive my car too much, because my school is so near my house. Only when I go to somewhere far from my house, I'll drive it. I like driving, I love my car.

Ooh your father was very generous.
I really don't like driving very much but it would be a lot harder to do things without the car.
We never had one when I was a child.

I have a mini van which I purchased at the beginning of 2002 brand new with insurance settlement money. We paid cash. This vehicle is mostly driven around town but I do have to go out of town every so often for family events, and my husband's family is an 18 hour drive away so we've driven it there a few times.
My husband's car I bought last year with some of the money my mom gave me as an advance inheritance. I was tired of him bringing junkers home. The car was not brand new. It's a 2006 but only had 50,000 km. on it. It has never made the trip down east because there is not enough room for luggage AND his golf clubs. Can't go anywhere without his golf clubs. Maybe he'll drive it down this year instead of flying since he now goes alone.

I never had a new car .
Only used models.
It must feel quite special to be able to go and pick one out.
My Sister in law has company cars as she is an executive .
They are usually quite luxurious bu she mostly travels by train anyway.

Nice to have a newer car.
22000 is a lot of KM in just 6 months!
I think ours had a very low mileage when we bought it but I have no idea what it has on the clock now.

Our car is almost three years old and we bought it new. It's a Toyota Prius and at the time I felt very smug having such an environmentally sensitive car......pauses for jeering ..... In fact it's the best car that I have ever owned. I started with a Renault 5 having graduated from a motobike. Then I had a Ford Fiesta, Ford Orion, three Citroen ZXs and a Citroen C5 before the Prius. I drive about 12,000 miles a year but I sometimes wonder where I go!

I like the idea of the prius.
wish we could afford one.
There is an interesting thing by Robert Lewellyn on youtube discussing his prius and how he tries to share journeys.
He is called Bobbylew I think on there.

We had a five door hatch for our last car.
I really liked the 5 doors with the kids as it was so much nicer to just get in rather than having to pull the seats forward and wait.

3 years old is like a new car to me.
Especially as the price of cars depreciates so enormously.
Ours was less than half the price of a new one and it was not all that old when we got it.
