grrr, this is part rant. For the fifth time since I sat down to mylot, the phone has rang, and I have limped as fast as I could, barring my game leg, to pick up the receiver. A canned message, Attention homeowners, good news.blah blah, so I hung up. I wanted to yell, Attention Telemarketers good news, dial my phone number again and bang you just got shot. well not really but grrr, this is so maddening. I do not have the money to get an answering machine like we had in our apartment. That one is in storage anyway. My question is those of you who still have landline phones, are you ever tempted to yell something mean back at the telemarketer? Or are you mild tempered and it does not bother you? oh I do need an answering machine. Have you ever had a morning when all the calls were either wrong numbers or someone bent on selling you something?

I so can relate to you it's frustating.....I generally wait for the recorded message to go through then I try to hit the number that says take off calling list.....But if I get a live person and they are trying to sell me something or to take part in a survey I've done that the odd time but I just find that I'm not so nice and repeat I'm not interested thanks.....I've said that 3 or more times to this one caller and I'm like what part of I'm not interested you don't understand....And say buh bye now and hang up needless to say I never heard from that one again....My number seems to be picked all the time in the random picks no matter how many times I've moved and changed numbers it still gets picked frustrating lol....HappyMylotting....

Hi, Hatley. I am known to play games with telemarketers. I will not answer my phone. Most of the time, I will pick my phone up and then hang it back down on the hook. I will hang up on them right then and there. And, sometimes, I will get so good and I will, scream like an wild animal. It is so funny@! And other times, I will make funny noises and then I will hang up.. Lol....!! I get so tired of them calling me and pressuring me. And what makes me very angry is when I will answer the phone and it will be a wrong number. This makes me so mad! This happened all last week. I know how you feel to have to put up with them irritating the crap out of you. They are annoying, and continue to ignore them.

hi cream oh yes I remember once I had this persistant lady trying to make me sign up for the Register. now I love that paper but I just dont have enough money right now and I had told her this before and before, so the next time I get this same caller, I start in,"no speaka de anglaise, no comprendo, si non no speaka Anglaise and she hung up. I had to laugh and my roomie was laughing too. So I think maybe its time to brust up on my spanish a bit and let fly. My hubby used to do this,he pretended to be a little boy, he would go hell o, who you want, daddy, who you are? I am Rob who you are? after about ten minutes of that nonsense the telemarketer would hang up. So now I think I will just scream like a banashee and that should stop a few of them. he he he.

I have never received calls from Telemarketers before as my landline is only used for internet connection. But I do get irritating calls from the credit card company through my cellphone reminding me to pay up my dues even when it is not due for payment yet. Sometimes it is quite irritating to be constantly reminded and I do raise my voice a little to show the caller that I am annoyed and know my responsibility. I can be rude sometimes when people call repeatedly looking for someone unknown and told the caller she got the wrong number but still keep calling my line.

hi zandi yes I have had that too. A Marvin called for Rita and I told him he had the wrong number. I will be darned, he called five minutes later and told me, you are liar. put rita on the phone now.So then I just hung up on him as he was cursing at me. He rang again and I did not bother to answer it. Then I got a call from a lady wanting to speak to Mrs. Gonzalez and I just had a hunch. I asked her if Mrs. Gonzalez first name was Rita and she was surprised when she answered why yes, then I told her about this Marvin and she told me Marvin was Rita's ex husband, who was a wife batterer.wow. This all frightened me so I called the phone company and they told me if this man called again to let them know and they would put a trace on it, but fortunately he never called again. wrong number did not seem to register with the man. a phone is great to have but wish I did not get those unwanted calls but now I can get my name on the gov. list.

hi. i can understand how you feel. its damn irritating and quite ironical also. when we need to find some information and we call to thier office, no one replies properly and when we don't need them , they keep calling you. in our home everybody has a mobile phone. so our friends and those we know call us on mobile phone. when landline rings we know that its some telemarketers call, so we avoid them. usually, these teelemarketers will call you once, i mean you can wait when phone is ringing, let it ring for one or two times,if it stops there, then it means ,its was telemarketer call. but if it keeps ringing after every two minutes , then for sure it is someone you know, because they want to talk to you and trying to get to you soon.

True,oh so irrirtating.grr preversions, again ana again, get into the mental anvil, has become part rant, this happens again and again, for doing some work, telemarketers, loans, banks, even wrong calls, make one a howler and want to yell,at them, but then the yelling mode becomes a messy grind, its better to hang the phone ,may be landline,or mobile,as they, will keep on nagging you,so its better to avoid. What do you say?

One thing I have heard is that a telemarketer can not hang up on you. What you do is put the phone down and let them talk. every once and a while you ask them to explain that. You can continue with mylot and waste their time. If you don't buy they can't make money. When you want to end simply hand up and soon you number will circulate as a waste of time. If you keep getting calls your revenge is that when they call you you are wasting their time and they are not making money.

bobmnu hi thats good to know, so just let them talk away, and once in awhile say something back then come over here and mylot and finally they will get the idea and fold up their tents and steal away. I like that.
they finally realize I am a time waster then they will give up.good deal.

Oh I feel for you Hatley! I have my number on the do not call list however, I think these companies are finding ways to get past that with their "lovely" recordings. What I do is hold a button down and let it squeal for about 10 seconds then I hang up. I heard that there's a sequence of numbers or one certain number that you can push and it screws their recordings up. I'm not sure which number it is or how it's done but if someone knows, I sure hope they put it on here for ALL to see!

Just about the only calls I get are sales recordings. When I get a live person I tell them I'm reporting them to the FCC because I'm on the do not call list. Then I report them!! I'm not very nice. Depending on how bad my mood is, I'll opt to get a live person on the line then I tell them they've broken the law by calling me and I demand a supervisor.
The calls have kind of trickled away now, thank God. I HATE the telemarketing industry!!

Hello Hatley!! I remember replying to something similar in another discussion but dont ask me where I dont remember lol.
I said that you need to sort of make fun of it in a way so you dont get so stressed out. Pretend you're a cop on the scene of a murder and you start asking whoever is calling questions. You say you're Lt Harley form the (fill in name) police and there was a murder and you need to find out who's calling. Ask for name, address (home preferably) social security number, where the person was in the past 12 hrs, take down all information......if you do this with everybody who calls, eventually you'll have fun.....you will, I know you will and pretty soon, it will be known to NOT cal you!! Your number will be taken off the lists very fast.
Here in Canada we can enter our number on some government list and the telemarketers cant call us anymore....too bad!! AND, I dont have a landline anymore, I use a cell and nobody calls me anymore

With telemarketers? not yet. With wrong numbers? Dozen times and I hate it. They always look for a physician when they dial our number. Sometimes I can't stand it because the one calling is the one I told earlier already that this is not a CLINIC. I don't really yell at them but kinda raise my voice a lil higher.

hi nykel88 oh i have had those too, and its really so irritating
as they can call several times and you keep saying this is a wrong
number no one here by that name. one man was really belligerent and
he did not believe me, yelled call Rita to the phone.so I hung up then got a call from a lady wanting to talk to Mrs. Gonzalez and I a sked her what the ladys first name was, sure enough it was Rita.,so told the lady that this was a wrong number and that a man had called said he was Marvin and insisted I tell Rita to come to the phone, and she told me
that this Marvin was the ex husband and had been a wife batterer. wow.
I was scared so called the phone co, andthey said if he called again they could put a trace on it and get the police after him. but thankfully he never c alled again.,

Oh, I have had this experience. Once, when I was in college, I was preparing hard for my examination. It was afternoon and my cell phone rang, when I answered, I found that it was from the Service Provider, telling me about their new schemes... I got pissed off! And told her (the agent) that I wasn't interested. But they are not that easy. She started telling me more about their schemes... I had to yell and tell her that I was preparing for my exam and didn't need her schemes.. Then she hung up, thankfully...
There have been numerous incidents when I received calls when I was fast asleep after a tiring day at office or I was sick and taking rest... Many such incidents! The telephone association here has now done something for the users. If I as an user submit a form to that organization, which will declare that I do not want to answer any such call; no company will ever be allowed to call me. And if any of them still make a mistake, they'll have to pay some penalty... This has worked fine here... I think, the telephone user's organization in your parts should think about it... :)
Have fun!

Hi... Yeah, that 'do not call' list does help a lot.. In India, many users have benefited from that. I am sure that the tele-callers are dumb enough to call up and offer their services at all ungodly times. Thankfully, they don't work in the nights, or we'd have been deprived of sleep too...

If you tell the telemarketer to take your name off their list, they are legally obligated to do that, and your name and number will be erased from that particular telemarketer's database. You might already know that, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to mention it in case someone else didn't know.

I used to be bombarded by telemarketers. I signed up on the national do not call list and it eliminated them. Before that I would simply set the phone down and wander off for an hour or so. They couldn't use that line for the time I was gone so they couldn't pester other people. Another thing I would do is try to sell them something that I had for sale.
I occasionally get early morning calls and anyone who knows me won't call before 9 a.m. so if I get a call before that hour it is usually "What the F--k do you want???" I am a night person and I don't sleep well anyhow so it is rather upsetting to me to have some idiot call at 6 a.m. wanting a ride to work or wanting to call in sick.
If you go to "national do not call list.com" you can get yourself removed from calling lists and if a telemarketer calls they can be fined $10,000! It would also save you the cost of an answering machine.

If you have a cell phone, put it on the do not call list too. I have an artificial knee and I've fallen trying to get to the phone in a hurry during the time that my boyfriend was so sick. Talk about pi$$ed off! I may have to go in for surgery as my knee appears to be out of alignment (thought that was only wheels on your car! LOL)and hurts like the !!! We looked at it tonight and it was four times the normal size for the knee.
I learned to screen my calls because the two places they never fail to call me is when I'm on the toilet and in the tub. Of course it is usually my sister that calls me when I'm on the toilet (like she has the room under surveillance!!) So I almost always answer the phone "Hi Sis".

I hurried out and the damned phone quit ringing just as I grabbed the receiver. I asked my friend nelda if she had called me that day,no and asked my son Robbie if he had called, no. so it had to be another telemarketer. I have a bad leg with a brace on it and so I limp and its so aggravating to hobble over there to get a call about selling my time share. I yell I do not have a timeshare. oh yes she said, its on my list, you have a time share. so I just hung u p on her.wow.grrrr.

Yeah these people annoy me too. We used to get a lot of them. It got so bad that we changed our phone number. Then we started getting calls for a Mrs McDonald over and over again from some company and in the end we told them that she was off with Ronald and not to bother us again.
We then started getting more calls from other companies and there was no legislation in place then to legally stop them ringing you so we got a private number. This stopped them and only cost an extra $2 or $3 a month.
We get the odd one every now and then but it is only once a year or so. We can handle that!
