I'd take it and install some linux distro on it and remove winXP and put windows 2000 on it cause it's lighter than xp or even windows 98se and use this computer for writing note and short projects and print them after that or just use it for testing some software I make.

I think it is an out dated machine. earlier is used to have the same configuration but i upgraded my system by 2gb ram and 250 hdd with core2duo processor.
now i feel this is not enough for me. i am going to buy another laptop with high end i3 processor and 4gb ram

Well I already have a much more advance configuration at home and most probably I would not be satisfied with its performance already. Myabe if I know how to make use of some of the parts there I would be interested to dismantle it and salvage the good parts of it but I am not able to make it since I am not that talented in figuring out what this part is for.

Howdy velocity_186!
Yeah! sure why not. Its free!
That's perfect for Linux Ubuntu or other else distros out there. Forget that MS Windows XP. I'll format it to a full Linux Operating System.
It can be nice as an Internet kiosk on some corner top at the kitchen. Or can be also a telephone or answering machine just put some additional modem device. Can be also a neat server for files, music, videos and backups - just upgrade its storage and memory systems. Can also use for home automation and or robotics.
For additional cost since its a free PC, how about a TV Tuner.
And yes of course this are all for a Linux. Where applications are free to use.
Thanks and Enjoy! myLot!

I would politely decline knowing in the back of my mind that a catch must be present. Why would anyone want to give me something like that? I've got nothing to offer them after all. I would probably say that is a major red flag. Getting a computer for free must require some kind of catch, one I do not plan to fall for.
