Can lies be justified? Is it okay to lie?
Personally, I rather have the truth. Even if the reason makes sense, I don't think it's worth it. It's usually pointless to avoid the truth because in the end the truth is much more valuable.

"A lie has a present, but it has no future." Should one decide to tell a lie, he needs to be absolutely sure that he has an excellent memory.
There is no such thing as a white lie. A lie is a lie no matter what. So, why waste time telling lies when sooner or later the truth will come out.
If one is a true friend, he wouldn't dream of lying to a friend even if the purpose is to make this friend feel better. When the friend discovers the lie, he will be upset and will feel that the liar friend isn't worthy of his trust anymore.
Let's remember the adage, "the truth shall set you free."
Have a great day, frozenfire!

Right, there are times when we need to avoid the truth, times when saying, "no comment," is better and safer.
A person who says that he has never told a lie since the day he was born is the biggest LIAR of all. We are human, we all make mistakes. At one time or another we can't help but lie. But if we can avoid occasions and temptations to make wrong choices, that would be the best that we can do.
Have a wonderful day, frozenfire.

Thankyou! I agree, a lie is a lie no matter what level of seriousness it is. I lie the first quote, I haven't heard it before. I think you're right, a lie isn't justified by the means of placating a friend, because in the end it doesn't help. Sure there are times it is better to avoid the truth in situation, but those times that are better are the exceptions and not the rule. :)

I can see a lie being justified when it may lead to a greater cause. The example I am thinking of is a sports team. Someone may tell a teammate that the other team was talking trash about him to pump him up. Though the other team may not being talking trash, your teammate may get motivated more and play better. In that case I think a lie was justified. It didn't harm anyone and may have helped achieve a higher goal.

I wouldn't mess with a teammate, there's other ways to encourage someone, like an inspirational speech. That player might have been friends with someone on the other team, or thre might be a fight and someone gets hurt.
So lies are okay if you can control it to your own benefit? .. I know people say lies and deceit are inevitable but I just think there's always a way to avoid lies by using other methods. Idk, just my opinion :)

I'll agree with what you've said, however there are circumstances where its easier said then done. A couple weak examples: A little girl's dad has been killed. She's crying, and screaming. "Where is my daddy?!" what do you say? A man is standing on a window ledge, of a really tall building. This man has nothing to live for really. His life is a mess, and he may make things better, but his life will always suck. He's going to jump. What do you tell him? An ugly chick puts on some new clothes, and asks you how it makes them look. You spent the night with your inlaws, and you did the big dirty. They ask you "So what did you two do last night?"

I get where you're coming from, but I wouldn't lie and say that the father is in the store- because later on it will scar the girl's life. It is awkward but most likely the parents will know. Sorry, I'm defintly not trying to tear down your examples. But for me, I try to not lie at all, but I would tell part truth ot lie by obmission. I want to avoid a direct lie, it sounds wrong and sneaky but it's just more practical to me. Thankyou for the comment, I appreciate the point of view. :)

"The truth shall set you free." "A lie may take care of the present, but it has no future." I don't even believe in white lies. A lie is a lie no matter what. I'd rather hear the truth.

Sometimes, but you have to consider that something is wrong with the situation if it calls for a lie.
