That is one of my lifes frusterations as well. I would do anything to play the guitar. I do plan on picking it up in the upcoming months. From what I've researched, it is very rare for people to play the guitar left handed (like I do) and lessons are even harder to find....that kind of has been what has kept me away. Like I said though, by about May I would like to start so hopefully in a few years I can report to you myLotters and say I am a rockstar, or something lol

i can play guitars. but i still have to depend on chords. i mean i can play guitars with chord chart so that i have something to look at while playing so i can figure out what will be my fingers do while playing it. i mean, if there is no chord chart to look at with, i can not play continuously. but there are those minor keys that i have successfully memorized so no need for the chart.

thats a good start i think. so keep on practicing and memorizing the keys and the chords. no reason you cant master those stuff. because in my case i dont have the patience to practice it and i have this problem really that i cant reach the strings on top because i have short fingers. grrrrr

Hi! Yes I do. And I'm telling you to not give up. I have short fingers too. In fact, I have to bend my whole wrist just to reach the other strings and keys as well. I think its the drive. I sing, and I write songs, so I was badly frustrated before. But hey, once you put your dedication to it, you can make it. And I agree, its true online tutorials do help. You might want to check guitartutee.com. Also, check shorter guitars. Mine's shorter so its easier for me to reach the tabs.

I simply love the instrument. It takes me to another world when I hear the music. I've been trying to learn the guitar for quite some time now and can play a bit. I am currently on the hunt for a good teacher. I plan on becoming a good musician and I know I am going to do it soon. You can do wonders carrine. IT is all in your head. There is a man who can play the guitar with his legs.He doesn't have hands. It is all in our head. So go and win your passion.

Nope I don't play. I had wanted to learn when I was a kid, but no guitar and no one to teach me. Hubby has tried to learn how to play on his own w/ little success... speaking of that I'll have to see if he'll donate the elec guitar he has it's cheap & he broke the bridge on it... it's collecting dust.

used to play the guitar but never really excelled in it. never learned to read the chords but from memory learned the chords of certain songs. then shifted to bass and drums. had some level of success there. used to be part of a band but that one never really took off. lol! nice story about your dad being very good playing the guitar. it really isn't too late to learn. you can go ahead and purcahse a cheap guitar and the basic chordbook and you can teach yourself to play the guitar. if i had the extra time, i would definitely do that. lol! anyway, i think its time to clean my old dusty guitar and start teaching myself to play. that wouldn't be such a bad idea. cheers!!!

haha.. we share the same sentiments... i just get so envious with those people who are very good in playing guitar! my brother bought me years ago when i told him i was interested but it ended up in the storage room.. haha.... Likewise, no one's around to teach me... My father used to play as well but he doesn't know how to read chords... ^_^ though i wasn't able to learn, my guitar impression remains... ^_^

hihi! same here! I love singing and I do play guitar but the thing is, I can't finish a song without having wrong keys or weird sound in between...and I just can't play anything I want to play. I have few songs that I can play and sing with but it is not that hard to play at all. I only know the basic and it's kinda frustrating to learn more.

It's very easy to learn how to play the guitar even if there's no one to teach you. Start out how to read chords using a chart. It's easy to understand those chart, just follow those dots. There are a lot of free online lessons too. Here's a good one: http://www.8notes.com/guitar_Chord_chart/

Me too. That is also one of my dreams in life. I tried learning how to play the guitar in the past. My dad bought me a dark purple colored guitar, though I'm not a fan of the color purple but it looks nice. I bought "Learn How to Play the Guitar" books and cds. I tried learning on my own. I already managed to play simple songs like Leaving on a Jetplane and Breakfast at Tiffany's. But after a few months, I gave up because I have short fingers and I find it difficult to reach some keys. Now my purple guitar gathers dust in my room. So sad.

I've never had the opportunity to learn to play the guitar. However, I have had the opportunity to learn to play the piano and also the viola and I'm a singer as well. I've never really had an interest in the guitar because until more recently in my life it really wasn't something that I was really exposed to. I am happy though that I have had the opportunities in my life to have access to learning a lot about music.

i love playing guitar, i do that during my free time. Don't be discourage learning to play it. To me learning how to play a guitar is like learning a new language, you start with the basics like saying hi and hello ( basic open chords) then progress to more advance things as you go on learning, don't skip a thing because you will be rewarded in the end :)

everyone can learn to play the guitar. short fingers should not hinder you from learning to play. i learned to play when i was still in elementary, my father taught me how to. and i still play with him if we got to jam with the band here in out community. Music is a good thing to pass on to your kids. good luck in finding a guitar teacher and keep your heart to music!

We were required to learn the basics in high school because of music class, but then I stopped because I didn't have a guitar and my fingers hurt after long practices. But I did learn how to read guitar tabs though, and I'm better at plucking than strumming. It'd be cool if I learned how to read notes like in classical guitar. :D
