what's the difference between 3g and 4g?

I see sprint is the first to have a 4g phone and market. Why is it better?

3g or 4 g is the name of the band!!So the 4g band is the fastest exchanging dates through a mobile network!!So as dates i mean phone calls,internet,downloading,uploading and so on...So for that 4 g the new generation of mobile communication probably will cost much than 3g!!
