Has anyone used an electronic picture frame?

I was thinking about getting my mom one for her birthday and preloading it with pictures of us kids, but I've never actually seen one in real life other than in the stores. Do they look good when they're actually sitting in your living room? Can you adjust the brightness? Do you have to turn them off at night? I've been trying to learn more about them ( http://www.redpnt.com/electronic-picture-frame/ ) but it's kind of hard to find good information about them. Do they use a lot of electricity? I don't want to increase my mom's electricity bill. Oh, and does anyone know if any of them will display animated gifs? That would be funny. Thanks!

My sister got my mom a picture frame for Christmas and I loaded it with pictures. My mom put it in the back bedroom where she has her computer. I noted the other day, it's never turned on. My mom prefers to watch the pictures we've loaded on her computer (screensaver set at 1 minute) more than she watches the digital picture frame. It turned out not to be a very good gift for mom. This is the only gift given her, she hasn't used.

I think that picture frames are a really good idea they have very good picture quality...I don't believe that they raise the electric bill any i could be wrong though.

you don't have to worry about my friend.let me explain why.some frames run in a.c. and some are by rechargeable batteries.they look very good like a live photo.you can also adjust their brightness, colors and contrast.some of them come with good features like- auto change of photos, frames etc.so don't worry, and choose a good one to gift.take my words, you will not be disappointed.and after all its always better to gift or try something digital in this digital era.
