The Natural History of the Chicken is a film by Mark Lewis. It goes to show us that chickens somehow have a human nature in them. The chicken, generally regarded as dinner, is also offered a chance to proudly strut its stuff in this unusual documentary about the birds and the people who love them.
Valerie being resuscitated to life is just hilarious and amazing for some. It's like a very crazy thought. But her owner regards her and all the chickens she owns as company she must keep. It seems obvious that she's living alone. But I guess I do not like that part of her that treats chickens as pets.
The headless chicken seems too good to be true and I guess there's some sort of scientific explanation needed there to make the people think otherwise. It was beheaded one day and then lived for another two and a half years. He was considered as "Miracle Mike".
Another chicken is treated as VIP by a woman. This chicken is very much cared for. Takes a bath everyday and then lives on wherever his owner goes and is even regarded as the love of her life.
Another one is regarded as a hero. She covers her little ones and even sacrifices herself to the point of death just to protect them from being some flying bird's dinner. The interviewee (the owner) acknowledges this scene as a fact that chickens do have human instincts, to be saved or to save. But I guess every parent may they be humans or not were always created by God to protect their children. That's always their first mission in the world.
But there are some who just want to know from where there food is coming. Americans spend $40 billion annually on chicken products and eat 80 pounds annually per person. In raising chickens, it takes 21 days from egg laying to hatching. And they require some good care in order to hatch well.
The film all in all is a "quirky portrait celebrating the virtue and valor of some common chickens."
