I'm in a dilemma right now. My laptop is broken. There's a crack/scratch on the lcd and it's not displaying the graphics properly. I've been with that laptop for years already. It's the first expensive thing that I have ever bought as a regular paying employee. I have so many memories with "max" as what I call it. Like a buddy. =) I can always have it fixed. I just requested for a quotation for Max's repair. But the price is not so practical for me. Only a couple more bucks out of that price, I can have a brand new laptop. But my dilemma is this, I am not sure I can depart with my laptop yet. I worked so hard just to be able to get that laptop. What would you do if you were in my shoes? Would you go for practicality or would you embrace it's sentimental value?

I would say this would be a tough situation but considering it is cheaper to get a brand new model, I would personally get the new model. Granted, for me, there are a few things of mine that I would hold onto until the very end but there are times where my desire to save any money that I can wins out over the sentimental value. Yeah, losing something like that can be hard. I remember there were things of mine that I have had that I held onto until I absolutely necessarily had to relinquish them. Still there is the fact that it is cheaper to get a brand new model than to get the old one repair. That causes my fingers to unclench and sentiment to be kicked out the door a lot of the time. Especially if it is a bigger price gap. A smaller one, and it might be a bit harder. Still, it is hard to get rid of something that I have used so long. Not as hard when it will save me money mind you. It will bring me moments of hesitation. If you are getting a big bargain, I say go for it. If it is just a small gap between prices, then it might be a bit harder. However, no matter what, at least you'll always have the memories.

Ye I guess you're right. I can always buy a new one. Have the old one lying around with no use... =) Or probably if time comes that I have enough money for the repair then I would definitely go for it. Thanks for an insightful response!

i can really understand your feelings right now as i also have the same but the different is my laptop was stolen from me. and like you i bought it from my own salary an its the very first expensive item i bought for myself so i really feel so sad and bad thinking that other people just took it just like that. and yes it true that repairing a loptop is very costly as what they said rather buy new one.
