Were you surprised when Hurt Locker trumped Avatar and James cameron to win both best picture and best director? Because i surely was. Up until approx 2 weeks ago, i must admit i havent even heard about this so low keyed movie.much less seen it!
Then seemingly from out of nowhere came this 'Hurt Locker' movie and Ms.Katryn Bigelow with a humongous broom, sweeping away the heaviest of the heavyweight oscars, best picture and best director! As for the other bests, wasnt caught off guard there,
Sandy bullock, about time she got her due is what i ve been reading, Jeff bridges fully deserves it ,i saw his great performance, best supporting ,Monique was expected
In the case of Hurt Locker.Seems to just appeared and conquered.Apparently, it wasnt even doing so well at the box office, till it was almost frantically promoted at last moment to gain more publicity and garner votes! !Huh,i guess with the hype over the wins, thats definitely going to change.!
If you ve seen the movie, do you think it deserved the wins?

I have seen most of the nominated best pictures this year and i have to say that the Hurt locker was not in my top choices. I liked Avatar a lot but i do not think it was worthy of best picture either. Sure the battle between ex husband and wife makes for good debate but i believe that theses movies are very overrated. Avatar's visuals are amazing but the plot is sub par. Much like the hurt locker, it just wasn't that good it had no middle or end. My choice for best picture would easily go to Inglorious ba****ds. And i am not a quinton fanboy. I can honestly say i have not seen the entirety of pulp fiction or kill bill 1 and 2.It was a solid movie with solid characters and never lost your attention. You cheered for the characters and thats what is important to me the abillity to make you want to take part in what they are doing.

I have seen both the movies Hurt Lockers and even Avatar and I think Hurt Lockers deserve the award as it is better story than Avatar also.
Avatar has ordinary story but was presented in a very well manner and so it got technical awards. Hurt Lockers is a reality film and has a True Heart touching story as well.
You should think from the point of view about how the plot is designed in a movie.
I think you should watch it as a True story.
I don't say that James Cameron do not deserve the Oscar, I thought he will grab Oscar for his direction and Hurt Lockers as movie, but Hurt Lockers got six Oscars which was really a surprising new for me!!

No,I wasn't surprised.9 Oscars - hm, let's look back at the history of academy awards..Gladiator gets 5 Oscars,Saving Private Ryan - 5,Schindler's list - 7.Those movies were much better, but they didn't received 9 awards. The only explanation I have is that they didn't want to give best picture award to a partly-animated movie. So they gave it to The Hurt Locker.Best director - a gift to a lady.I want to see something more entertaining next year.

I didn't see either movie and have no interest. I am not surprised the predictions were all correct I don't think there were any surprises. I was happy to see Jeff Bridges win long overdue. He has been in so many great movies. Overall I thought the show was boring and long as usual. I am glad Avatar didn't win because then we would have had more movies like that and I am not interested in 3D movies. The only thing that bothers me about The Hurt Locker is all the shadiness going on with that movie. The producer banned from the oscars and now one man is suing saying they stole his story and made this movie. If that is turns out to be true I hope they lose all of their awards. I don't like cheating of any kind.

Well I wouldn’t say that it suddenly got promoted rather than when the movie guys who make the nominations announced it as a contender everyone got suddenly interested.
Having seen “The Hurt Locker” it definitely deserves the best picture and Bigelow equally deserves the director Oscar. It is a very brave movie because it is vastly different to main stream cinema. It combines raw almost documentary style footage with then some high level production values, with a special effects sequence worthy of any John Woo movie.
But aside from that the storyline is extraordinary as you get to understand what makes certain people on the front line tick, what makes them keep on risking life and limb whilst also highlighting how friggin’ scary it is on the front line as you are constantly under threat of being blown up or shot by a sniper.
It’s because it is such a different sort of movie to what appears as main stream that many audiences haven’t either got it or chose not to see it in the first place. Shame, because it is one of those rare movies which is captivating from start to finish, yet doesn’t rely on the cheap tricks that many movies employ to please audience.

I was not surprised by it, being this movie has been sweeping awards since released last May. It only lose in golden Globe and Screen actors Guild while winning BAFTA, Directors Guild etc. I still think Avatar or Basterd better than this movie. I just don't get what's so good about this movie that it won Best Pic, though I think it's better than last year's truly overrated Slumdog Millionaire

I saw Hurt locker about two weeks ago and i liked it but it really wasn't anything special. I guess it took the awards because of Americans that serve in the army and their families that have to deal with bombs in real live. But i would never say it will win any oscars. Almost everyone saw Avatar and most people like it a lot. I liked it to but it didn't impress me that much. I wouldn't say Hurt locker doesn't deserve the wins because it's a good movie i was just supprised.

I think Avatar won the ones it deserved to win, the ones concerning creativity, but having seen the Hurt Locker it was the one that deserved the Oscar, it's a very intense and dramatic movie. I actually think that the oscars this year all went to the right winners.

Avatar is amazing as far as the technology used is concerned ... it has pushed the limits and has set a new satandard. As far as I'm concerned it won the Oscar in the right categories.
The Hurt locker deserved the best movie award more, and won it.
