Excuses, excuses! What is YOUR excuse?

I've noticed that men generally have different excuses for getting out of work sround the house than women. I'm not saying that men are lazy (energetically challenged) but, as far as excuses are concerned, I've heard some whoppers come from them.
My husband has new excuses almost every weekend and that got me thinking about other families, other men. What are the most "creative" excuses you've heard come out of a man's mouth? How about you men?
I'd like to hear some unique excuses if you have any. "I'm tired" seems to be the excuse most often used.
Do you have any unique or creative excuses for postponing or getting out of work around the house?

My mother had an operation on her right arm recently which meant she was not able to do much around the house and for around six weeks while her arm has been healing on a sling. Her doctor removed the sling just last week but mum is still in a lot of pain and it will take time for everything to go back to normal. Dad was helping her while her arm was in the sling but now, according to him she is fine so he has stopped helping. When my sister and I explained to him that she is still in pain and therefore still needs his assistance he replied that by not helping he is doing her a favour because her arm needs to be exercised now or it won’t heal properly so if she takes over the housework she will be doing good physiotherapy as well!

I personally don't make up many excuses, because I always fail at it. But I know others that can pull some excellent excuses that work. I do make an occasional excuse to skip a Saxophone lesson, but that may be once every month, so it's not too often. I love to hear a teenager talk about traffic and that's their excuse for being late. I think to myself, "Where have you been the last 16 years?" My excuse is "Oh, my lips were chapped.", but it doesn't work for too many situations.

That is definitely unique! I've never heard that one before. I hope my husband doesn't see it because he might try to use it next weekend. LOL

Good Point mentalward. If I ever need an excuse, which is rare because if I am deeking out about something then I am for real and will say, I am in major pain. My back is so screwed up so sometimes I have to check out for a bit in order to cope with what is often debilitating pain. Really messes with my gardening! Anyway, excuses from me is that they have to go to work... or I am going to watch the hockey game. That one is the most used one I have heard yet. Lastly, I'll do it tomorrow okay? Lol
Oh yeah the latest is "I better get out of here or you're going to put me to work". Ha!

My husband didn't use excuses. He just flatly refused because I was a stay at home mom and didn't do anything all day. I had a cushy life, lounging on the couch with a box of chocolates watching soap operas. Even when he stayed home sick or came home early and saw me working my butt off, he thought it was the exception to the rule. He WORKED! All day, 5-6 days a week, and was too tired to do anything, too tired to even go to the boys' baseball games or their school functions. In fact, he worked so hard and I had it so easy that he didn't need any excuses to not do anything around the house and God forbid I should say I was worn out-because after all, I never did anything.

I think the majority of men come from the same mold, my friend. They are all pretty much alike. I'm glad to be done with them! I hear you about the C-section, I had two of them and my husband was NO help at all with the babies--he never got up with them, rarely held them or played with them, just yelled and complained.

I wish I COULD answer that one for you.
Unfortunately, you can always find me puttering around the house doing something, whether it be repairs, vacuuming, the dishes, dusting and/or cleaning up, taking out the trash, or whatever. I've never been one to find an excuse to get out of doing work around the house. Call me goofy, or perhaps a male oddball, but I enjoy it too much...and I suppose, it all has a lot to do with the way in which I was raised. Everyone had their specific "job" to do, when I was growing up, and no one ever minded to do it.
Today, you're most likely to hear me say:
"GIVE ME A BREAK!"

Hi Gabs. Your ex sounds like my first husband.
I'm sorry for taking so long to respond to your comment! I can't say I have a good excuse for that, either. LOL I don't know why except maybe this was one of those times when notifications weren't being emailed.

ME...Marti, Excuses....I can hear the garden calling me...That's all the excuse I need! Amazing how they know our names! I know you are plagued with "terra-firma-itis" too....very absorbing disease that seems to reach it's peak, early spring, summer, and in many cases...on into the Fall. Side effects are noses buried in seed catalogues, gardening magazines! That's my excuse, and I am sticking to it!
HUGZ & Cheers!

Hahahahaha! YES! That's me, too. I'm getting upset because each new catalog I get now has nothing I haven't seen before.
But, I've managed to counter that by actually getting outside and working in the dirt a bit!!! Well, except today because it's raining and is supposed to continue raining until Monday. Geez, just when the ground seems to be somewhat workable, it gets flooded again. Fortunately, I did manage to get a couple of blueberry bushes planted as well as some new coneflowers. I think that Monday or Tuesday, I'll try tossing some poppy seeds out there and see what happens but I'm so worried that we're going to have a repeat of last Spring with too much rain. I hope not!
If that's the case, though, I'm seriously thinking of building a huge sunroom/atrium kinda thing. I've taken hundreds of cuttings from some bushes I have and stuck them in dirt to, hopefully, root some of them and sell to finance this sunroom thing. I learned all about how to do that from Mike McGroarty at FreePlants.com. (AWESOME site! Tons of free info!)
I hear the garden calling me right this minute but what it's saying is, "PLEASE! No more rain!!!"
Hmmm, maybe if I throw out a gazillion packets of silica gel, they may just soak up this excess moisture. No, that won't work. The packets would be so heavy I'd never be able to pick them up.

mentalward,
Well, for one and me - "I am at a lost what to do, and if you need me to help out - just tell me."
For me, I travel a lot and when I am home, I would leave the housework and domestic affairs fully in the charge of my beloved. Out in the field, I practically have been making decisions every single moment and so, I would just like to lay back when I am home.
The domestic field and its decisions, I felt should be left to our beloved's discretion. I just do not feel that I should meddle or be meddlesome, after all you don't get to have the title of "Domestic Engineer" for nothing, you know?
But, I will never shrug off or procrastinate once help is needed and requested - that's me!
