There are 99 out of 100 pictures are fake but yet there is one picture which is not a fake. Everyone knows that its not 100% safe to post your real picture on a social networking site. there are millions of users or some of the greatest sites and at the same time millions of mind are thinking when they see a picture. who know who and when can think about an evil and on whom ?
It could be you also and it could be someone else thinking about you ?

i dont think any evil can be done with such a low resolution pic ....people say its not safe but i dont think so because the pics on such websites are quite low on resolution so u cant really do something "evil" as you remark(i mean no editing or such stuff can be done with the pic:)

I don't agree with this that it is safe to post real picture. I think it is really dangerous to post real pictures because of various reasons. Your picture, your address, and your full name can be dangerous. Pictures can be copied and altered. Your pics will affect how people perceive you. No site is safe, even if 'a' site claims to be safe, it isn't. So before posting your real pics..do remember this and be safe..Thanks

Dangerous ? what is the exact defination of this word ? There was a person who posted a picture of his and became extreamly famous on a social neworking site. and there was a person who posted his picture and a few guys misused his picture and posting his real picture became a nightmare for him.

i usually dont respond to any discussion unless the real pic is up, but since your new, welcome, and ill be seeing ya i hope. for myself i dont care what people think. there was a young woman a few months ago who put her naked pics up and then wondered why no one would answer her discussions, they were most likely too busy looking at her pics and passed the discussion up. i told her to take them down and see what happens and she started getting responses. id say 95 % of the people here are pretty cool and respectable people. have a great day

Being an experience one you might be knowing more than other new comers but what actually happen when you post your new picture is people start thinking in their own way. and you know how bloody a person can think and you never know who is going to be the victim of those people i hpe you understand

Generally most of the people do not like to put the real picture of theirs it is because of many ifs and buts in their minds.. I believe in only one theory, if u add friends who u know then it is better to share the original picture.. Belief is the bottom line, if u believe particular social netwroking site is safe then it is safe. But without knowing much about a person never add anyone to friends list.. But in spite of many good people there will be some bad one as well, so we have to face them also.. Fianlly, I will post my profile picture in particular site if i am comfortable if not I will not..

Believing your friend does not mean that you can trust them. I have more than 100 friends out of which i know 20 or 30 but i can never show or send them my real picture online. You can never read what is running in one mind even if you know him/her so i would stick not to post my real pictures

on sites like Facebook, they just post their real picture so they can interact with friends in their school. i think these people don't know and don't care about the threat anyways. i also think that these kind of people aren't stupid enough to fall for stalkers, but that's my opinion. i might be completely wrong.

Ok but the question is whom are you posting your pictures for and who actually are watching. when only those whom you are posting are watching then its fine but practically when you post your picture every user can watch it. Isnt it ?

There is nothing which is 100% safe while it comes to internet. but for posting your real picture is certainly not safe according to me. I would love to post a fake but attractive picture to drag people to answer me.
Hope it work a little

I have no problem posting pics of myself, my family (kids hubby etc) and friends on social sites like FB..BUT I also have my profile privacy settings set so that ONLY ppl on my friends list can see them...LOL not that it matters since I had two websites a few yrs ago that had tons of personal pics on them...

I use a real picture of myself as my avatar but I don't think anyone can use it for anything evil. And as I have several similar pictures, I can have different ones at different sites. Of course, there might be people out there thinking mean and evil thoughts when they see shadows on snow, but I'll take the chance :-)
There's picture you should be careful to post of course, pictures from parties, the beach etc. Pictures of children also.

actually its not really safe. like, when you already post your picture, your giving up that picture's privacy. its not yours anymore though it is you on the picture, everyone can use it now. I've experience a lot of this on Friendster.com (a popular social networking site), those people who use other's picture in order to have many friends or to deceive people. i really don't get the point of using other persons picture. for me, your just making the person in the picture your using more popular. i don't even know what self benefits they can get on using others picture. well now, social networking sites such as Facebook uses privacy controls in order to protect not juts picture but also users personal info. good isn't it?. keep safe people! :)

fake or not really doesn't matter if send pictures on the networking. However,if there is a place where everyone can show his or her real life, it will do us a lot of good! We can make friends and discuss career, family, life etc without hesitation. We feel right because we are real!
Holding this point of view, I usaully post my real pictures on a socail networking site, and all people can see these via internet. Risks do exist, it is no doubt! But thinking of that, we are so small in the whole world, and who may care we ordinary people. Just dance like no one's watching! It doesn't matter really!
we can gain more beneficail in this real net world!

since you mentioned social networking in genereal and not mylot in particular,
i would definitely say thats its a bad decision uploading original photos
to those sites. What's worse is that when you keep your privacy level to low and
everyone , those not even in your friends list might be able to view your photos.
though some sites like orkut offer protection in the sense the images cant be copied on
theres lots of loopholes and your image from tha alnum can be easilyt downloaded by random people.
