So, when Jimmy Cameron lost his rightful Academy Award to his ex-wife, didn't you feel some rage? C'mon, I haven't seen The Hurt Locker, but Avatar surely deserved more awards; and let's not forget, for all the gamers out there, that in Hurt Locker they play Gears of War on 360 even if it should be set in 2004 (okay, maybe that's not a reason to not deserve an oscar :P). So, do you think Avatar deserved more awards or not?

Wait, so you're telling me that although you never actually watched The Hurt Locker, you somehow know it wasn't deserving of its Academy Award? Brilliant logic there Personally, I'm glad Avatar didn't dominate the show. Aside from good special effects, I found it distinctly average.

No, wait! I didn't say that the Hurt Locker didn't deserve its awards (didn't say that, and on the Gears of War part, I was only joking :P), but maybe Avatar could have won more awards. Anyway, I wanted to hear other people's opinions to see if Hurt Locker was actually better that Avatar. You seem to prefer Bigelow's one, so thats one point for Hurt Locker :D

A little OT: great Avatar (pardon the pun) you got there, loved the Fallout saga!

I too was rooting for Avatar all the way! I really thought it would have won more awards. By the end I was pretty disappointed that The Hurt Locker took so many of the awards. Go Avatar!

in reality i thought that avatar will win much more awards than they won in reality but you know in some cases the academy award will give thier oscars to movie much complex as regards psycological involvement than avatar or fantascientific movies!!

The thing is it’s hard to say that Avatar deserved the best picture or director Oscar until you have seen The Hurt Locker, because it’s an unbalanced decision. I have seen both and there is no doubt that Avatar is a visual delight but then The Hurt Locker has the stronger storyline which for me outweighs what Avatar had to offer and so quite rightly won the best picture. But also The Hurt Locker is not just a plain movie it combines some special effects worthy of a John Woo movie with some creative camera work and delivers a stunning amount of atmosphere and tension. As such Bigelow did a marvellous job on the direction to deliver this and again for me was the right choice. This doesn’t detract from Avatar because it won the right awards for the visual and technology aspects. But it didn’t have the storyline to compete. When or if you watch The Hurt Locker, with an open mind, I am sure you will appreciate why it got the big awards.

I love Avatar and expecting it to win in Oscars, Cameron really made an excellent and extra ordinary job, he is a genius in a film making industry and he should be given an award for revitalizing the dying film industry! I saw the boring "The Hurt Locker" film and I just couldn't reconcile the puzzle why on earth the Best in Sound Mixing and Sound Editing went to that painfully boring movie? Its sound mixing is horrible!Avatar's sound mixing is very clear and fantastic, why the academy members gave the awards to this cheap hurt locker movie? Avatar's musical scoring is wonderful too knowing it's a James Horner scoring, and yet the award went to "Up" I guess (gosh I have no intention to remember who bet Avatar for this category), what happen to Oscar awards? why they suddenly become cheap? The fact that one of the producers of The Hurt Locker was accused of violating the rule of the academy because of that ridiculous email, the movie should be given some sanctions and not the man alone because the subject of that stupid email is his movie then out of credibility the academy should take appropriate action to that. The Hurt Locker, through asking people from the neighborhood and based on the forum in different online sites, is nothing but a monumental boring film, gosh most of the people did not even know that film existed, most of the scenes are not that impressive, it makes you feel asleep if you are not just concern of the money you spent in the theater.

Well i think they based it entirely on the storyline. i know avatar has cool graphics that makes it an eye candy but i think the other movie, i havent seen it yet, deserves it. well i dont know. i should watch the other movie first before i state my opinion. but right now, i think avatar rocks!
