I found myself wanting to throw popcorn at my TV lol, because I was really surprised about some of the chosen winners. I mean for the most part I felt happy to see actress MoNique win for her role in precious, but some of the other announced winners was a bit disappointing, in particular best actress and best director category's. well enough about what I thought about the winners, what did you all what did you thank about who won did your favorte actress, actor or director/picture win?

Everyone I read this morning talked about how there really weren't any surprises. But I thought there were a couple of surprises. I know everyone said Sandra Bullock would win for The Blind Side, but I really thought Meryl Streep would win. And I thought James Cameron would beat Kathryn Bigelow for best director, but he didn't. Don't get me wrong. I'm thrilled Sandra Bullock won. It seems that Oscars never go to people in movies where the public actually goes to see them. It seems that the people who win are in small, arty movies. Like Jeff Bridges winning this year for Crazy Heart.
However, if Meryl Streep had won, I would have been happy for her too. Because she was great in Julie and Julia. I'm also thrilled Kathryn Bigelow won for best director. She is the first woman director ever to win an Oscar. But the best part is that she beat arrogant James Cameron. I know a lot of people love him and Avatar, but I'm not one of them.

I felt the same OMG I was wondering if anyone else felt that Meryl Streep should have won she is an amazing actress for sure, dont get me wrong I like Sandra Bullock also, but my goodness I just felt that any of the other three actresses should have won, I mean I'm sure misses Bullock did great in the blind side but was she amazing in that film? come on over Meryl Streep and Helen Maren I would have rather the young lady in precious win she was amazing in precious and I felt that James Cameron should have won also Avatar film looked amazing, though it is nice to see a female win best director.

Well, with Precious, that is a different material. No one can top that kind of material. I don't think Helen Mirren won because she won an Oscar a couple of years ago for The Queen. And her performance wasn't that much different from then and now.
As for Avatar, so much of it was CGI. He didn't direct the CGI part. I mean, he was involved in how it turned out on screen, but I read a lot of people didn't consider it as hard to direct as Bigelow's movie. We're just talking directing of course. Avatar was incredibly hard to make, but they don't give awards for difficulty. He isn't hurting though. He is definitely winning the box office crown!

Good point but Cameron developed most of the project meaning it came from his own idea developing the character's and such he made a lot of the big decisions for the film and though it was a lot of CGI he directed the live actors a lot and was a big part of the film getting made. but your right I'm sure he's not that disappointed or crying in the corner or anything.

I just don't understand why everyone likes those award shows. Good grief, haven't they scammed enough money out of us all with the high prices of movies and DVD's and all that stuff, and then when they win the awards...their salaries go up and we have to pay more then next time!?!??! in my opinion, not a single actor/ress does enough to "earn" those humongous salries that they get. And then when they get the award, not only do they dress like high-priced street walkers or a bum, but I"ve yet to hear any of them say first thing..."I want to thank all my fans. You are the ones that made it possible for me to earn this award and allow me to have a very high salary and live so comfortably, so thank you very much"

You are so right in fact I typically skip watching these celebrity parades but this year there was a few nominee's that were of some mild interest to me, so I thought I'd check the show out this year, but next year I'm quite sure I'll skip it as usual. lol its funny what you posted, but true in a way.
I'd like to thank the fans for making me a rich snob and making it posible for me to wear outrageously expensive gowns while millions of people out there dream of being able to eat. in the end its all about helping these already rich people gain even more money and notoriety, in fact I bet half of these celebs wouldn't even stop to sign an autograph if it meant actually having to take time out of there glamours lives and interact with regular people, and if they do its for a photo opp or some silly publicity stunt. maybe some are good hearted people that appreciate there position, but I bet a lot of them secretly could not care less about the people who helped them get to where they are.

Who cares if a fan sell the autograph on ebay its not like selling it will take food out of there rich mouths or stop them from paying there million dollar mention bills, I say let the fan do what they want with it, celeb's have plenty of cash the fan may only get a grand or two that wont last forever, but the celeb has millions some celeb's have billions what difference will a few hundred or thousand make to them they shouldn't be so greedy.
And your right agin, it dosent matter what we think there are plenty of fans out there to keep all the celebs paid and snobby for life lol, one or two people who dont give a hoot wont make a difference to them, and yes there are some celebs that are doing some good humanitarian work and actually seem to care about more then big fancy bashes. so I guess maybe we shouldn't judge hollywood so harshly, but then I see celeb's that are constantly getting arrested and strutting around on TV acting like dits and it brings me back to thinking hollywood is dumb lol. oh well I guess deep down we all wish we could be as wealthy but not stupid lol.

The only one I got wrong was the best picture. I really thought Avatar was going to win because of all the money the movie has made so far. I was so happy that The Hurt Locker won along with the director of the movie. I think with the Hurt Locker winning that was the biggest surprise of the evening.

I was expecting Avatar to dominate, but The Hurt Locker coming out on top of a record-breaking film really surprised me.
Overall, it was a really good event with a range of top contenders and deserving winners (Christoph Waltz for Best Supporting Actor, he definitely earned that one)

I love award season. I watch almost all the award shows. i wasn't really that surprised with the winners of the best director and best movie category. The Hurt Locker follows the usual trend of Academy winners; non-blockbuster, dramatic, provoking, etc. I was surprised about Bullock. I love Sandra and I did think she did a good job on that role. It was a good movie. However, I wouldve put money on Helen winning. Oh well.

Yes totally agree that it should have been Helen or Streep for sure Sandra is fun to watch but is her acting on the same level as Marian and Streep? lets get real I've also enjoyed watching bullock blossom over the years her work seems to get better with time but she is not on the same level as marrin and Streep. but oh well as you say.

I was a bit dissapointed as well this year. Not only was the award ceremony a little boring but like you said nobody i wanted to won the big awards. I had my bets on Inglorious to take the cake in a bunch of different catagories. Like director and picture. I like avatar but fel that the only awards it deserved were the 2 that it had won (effects). The hurt locker to me wasnt a great movie and should not have won, Quintin was a much better director this year round. Also what the hell was with bullock winning the best actress? everyone keeps saying she was due for a win but thats no reason to win, should have been miren or streep in my opinion.

Well I wanted James Cameron to win for avatar because I like special effects films and I know James cameron turned out a good one this film looked amazing and he made history with the new technology he used in the film.
But since he could not win I would have preferred Quintin Tarantino to win I like his work hes a little crazy but a fun entertaining way.
The hurt locker come on give me a brake lol, I appreciate that a woman won and all but I felt it should have been one of the other two directors, and oh man I thought WHAT! Sandra bullock please, shes a fun actress to watch, but she didnt seem amazing in that film really? over Streep! or that young lady in precious or even helen Mirren my goodness, I would have been happy for bullock if she was extraordinary in that film but she didnt seem to much different than usually in that film she may has well said stay on or get off through the whole picture lol. no disrespect to misses Bullock I've enjoyed her work for a while now and I hope to see her in other good films but this seemed a little ufair. thats just my opinion.

I piggy backed on Roger Ebert's picks and all of them were correct. I thought Jeff Bridges wold win. It was such a meaty part. I thought Sandra would part because of the character she played was tough and tender all at the same time. I hoped Kathyrn would win for The Hurt Locker. I thought Mo Nique would win. Her role is the type of role the Academy loves and so was Christoph's. And as for best picture I was hoping the Academy would vote for The Hurt Locker. It seemed to be more of a poignant story.

apples99,
Well, I did predict but not for the winners.
Yes, I predicted who WOULD NOT win and did wonderfully well.
First, I predicted that Avatar and James Cameron will not get beyond nomination. I just do not buy it especially when the director could be so insensitive and crazy to produce a film that cost sponsors a big hole on their wallets. Mind you, this is a challenging and tough time for everybody around.
For Avatar and James Cameron supporters, please do not take any offense here, as I am only stating what is on my mind and a fact. Without a doubt, the movie is indeed a masterpiece as far as the visual effects and a first of the many tech being applied is worth watching but I just cannot stomach the amount of money taken to produce it. Fortunately, the box office made it a worthwhile venture and I just cannot imagine if it had turned out the other way.
For Meryl Streep fans, I too did not see her winning this year's Academy as far as her role in her movie Julie and Julia because I felt the story line is a little too predictive and blend. Although, I must say that the movie would have been a disaster if Meryl Streep was absent, she did well with her role. But, Sandra's Blind Side is much better although, I must admit that I was a little concern with her earlier award she picked up at the Razzies. So, as it turns out the Razzies is just a good omen or epilogue for what is to become the ultimate and best award yet - the Oscars and quite deserving too if I may add.
In conclusion, I am glad that the Academy do recognize movies like Hurt Locker, Blind Side and etc., and quite rightly and appropriate, too. However, I am a little concern about the television network tussle of broadcasting rights and I am quite sick of it. These people will just go on and on like overgrown babies on the loose with their steroid hormones and holding us viewers at ransom. These networks fight literally over everything the professional soccer leagues, the Games, the Oscars and the forthcoming FIFA World Cup!!! I just do not like one single bit of it at all and I just hope that the governments will come down hard on these insensitive money hungry mafias.
Have a nice day.

Yes. I watched the Oscars. I wanted Sandra Bullock to win as Best Actress. She won so I was really happy. But I was also disappointed that Avatar did not win, along with James Cameron. I was rooting for these two. I think James Cameron truly deserved the Oscar because he is the first to make an innovative film like Avatar.

There were no surprises at all. I was happy for Jeff Bridges I haven't seen Crazy Heart but I know people who have and said he was great in it. He is such a great actor anyway. I also wanted Meryl Streep to win. I don't really care for Sandra Bullock as a actress. She does nothing for me. I also was happy Avatar did not win best pic. I am not interested in it. As for The Hurt Locker with all the attention it has received and I am not talking in the good way. The producer being banned and now a solider is suing them saying they pretty much stole his story. Not sure if that is true or not. I am not surprised it won either everything pretty much went the way the preditctions had said. All in all I thought it was boring.
What about the way Tom Hanks came out and just said who won? I wonder did they tell him to do it like that or did he just want to get it over with? Odd he didn't name all movies.

i planned to watch the academy awards but i did see only the initial stages of the show . since it was morning in india when the awards function took place i was not able to watch it fully since i had college (it was monday morning here ). i was happy with some awards like the best supporting actors (both male and female ) , best animation movie and best movie . but i was disappointed with the best director award . it could have been given to inglorious basterds or avatar . but its all over . and over all a good one except a few unexpected winnings .
