England..i'm a big fan of england and always hoping they will win every major event..it's so unfortunate that they didn't compete in 2006..my heart was really broken..England has many great players..and if Rooney keeps shining..i'm sure England will be..

I cannot believe this discussion is going on and NOBODY has mentioned ARGENTINA! I favor Argentina! Yes. I live in Argentina. Although Maradona has not proved much as a coach, there are a LOT of good players for the national team and he has had some interesting choices. Brazil?!?!?! Uh....NO! England? I think not. It has to be ARGENTINA! lol. It remains to be seen but I have absolute trust in our players and we always perform well.

well if i wanted to be smart like my dad i would say something smart like whichever team scores the most goals.
I don't care what the sport is if i ask dad who will win i always get whoever scores the most points or runs or whatever depending on the sport.
Back to the question it would be nice to see our country have a good showing as we seem to be getting a little better then over the past, but as everyone in the United States knows soccer is not the most popular sport here so if we can at least win a game or two that would be nice progress.
It seems it all depends on matchups if you are in an easier group then you will have a better chance to advance, but the big powers like Spain, Brazil and Italy those are usually the ones to look out for, but there always seems to be a surprise or two that pops up so you will have to wait and see.
When does the world cup start do you know the dates?

Hi CMTS,
It is hard to guess because we do not really know which player will represent their country. Most of them (if not all), still play for their club and can get injured at time.
But bar any unfortunate injuries to their players, my choices would be England, Brazil and Spain. These 3 team will go to the semi final. England and Spain can clear their group easily but Brazil might find it hard. They face a tough opponent in Portugal and Ivory Coast for 2 places to go through to the second round.
With very impressive performance in Europe qualification round (nine win out of ten), England can go to South Africa with sky high confidence. Brazil have won 5 of the previous tournament while Spain is the most outstanding team since last year.
But I hope England can break their 46 years jinx by lifting the World Cup this year.

Argentina is not given enough credit for their team. I hope they rock it out this year!! I can't wait to watch the world cup!!!!!!
