Okay, I have kidney stones. I've been dealing with them for a little under a year. They tell me they are calcium oxilate stones. Im so tired of having to go in adn have surgery. I have had 8 surgeries since they all started. I asked about the medication that dissolves the stones, but they said they dont have one that helps dissolve this kind. Any ideas as to what I can do to help keep them away so I can avoid srgery for a 9th time.

What I read is that kidney stones can be inherited. Or at least a tendency to them. The other thing I read is that you need to avoid foods that contain oxalates since your stones are calcium oxalate. The only food I know that contains oxalates is spinach. I could do a search and learn more. The third thing that I ran across is that dehydration causes kidney stones. You need to drink more water. Not other stuff, water. There is not a medication for this, but there is a treatment with sound waves called something like lithotrophy that will break them up so they will pass. Does the doctor think it would help for you to take cranberry pills?

You know, i drink a lot of water now. I didnt before, but i do now. they did my lithotripsy for my first surgery and they came back like 3 weeks later. Not only that, I was also pregnant, so of course, water is important. I do think that I inherited them from my father. I cant find any more stuff that I need to stay away from and not eat anymore. My doctor gave me a list of foods that I should stay away from completely and foods that I can eat sparingly. Now I am following that, but it doesnt seem to be helping. I did have a friend that is going to give me cranberry pills, so I guess i will see what happens. Thanks for responding.

I don't know anything about kidney stones but I've known you for what? 10-15 years now and these kidney stones only started about a year ago so I wonder about the whole heredity thing. Usually if something is hereditary you see signs of it throughout a persons life...at least thats how it's been with me. I think its something else, perhaps one of the medications they had you on, one of the treatments they gave you or something else.
The best I can tell you is drink tons and tons of water, try the cranberry stuff and stay absolutely away from sodas...not even one!
