An important cooking tip I learned from my Boyfriend

My boyfriend discovered the Nissan noodle meals in their own bowl. Actually I introduced them to him. Since he is a widower he doesn't cook much for himself so they come in very handy.
The other day he came down to the house and I noticed that his clothes smelled kind of smoky. Since he doesn't smoke I was curious. I didn't have to wait long for the explanation.
Mind you he is very quiet and shy and doesn't fess up to doing stupid things often so this surprised me. He had taken one of the Nissan noodle bowls out of the cupboard, put it in the microwave. He couldn't figure out why the house was starting to get smoky until the timer went off on the microwave and he opened the door. The noodles had cooked for four minutes without water. He didn't realize how bad it smelled until he opened the lid... then the smoke and smell really came billowing out.
He looked me in the eye and stated "I want you to remember that when you fix those noodles to ALWAYS add water!!!" Needless to say I couldn't hold back the laughter!

OMG that is so funny! I kind of feel so bad for him. The fact that he is shy makes it sort of sad. He was trying to cook a meal. Poor thing! You can tell him though that since you have shared his story It has helped so many of us. I will now never forget to add water to the noodles before they go in the microwave.LMAO

I can't look a box of microwave noodles in the face and not laugh! I about wet myself last night when I fixed a box of the noodles for my dinner because I laughed so hard. Of course it is also the fact that though he is very shy and reserved he loves to make me laugh! And telling on himself when he does something like that is guaranteed to make me laugh.

OMG. He's lucky that he didn't set the house on fire! It reminds me of one of my favorite cooking stories. My Grandmother always used to cook for holiday meals and after she passed away, my Aunt (God love her) decided to carry on the tradition. On Thanksgiving day, the entire family gathered at her house for dinner. We were enjoying time with our family but were starving and an odd smell was coming from the kitchen. My Aunt didn't know that she was supposed to remove the packet of gizards and liver from the turkey before she cooked it. The dinner had to be scrapped and my cousins and I were thrilled. We had pizza for Thanksgiving dinner.

LOL--I love those Nissen noodle meals but don't use a microwave to heat it up..I do it the old fashioned way of heating water in a saucepan then add it to the noodles...they kind of cook themselves in about five minutes. Gee, if it's not your kitties giving you a laugh, it's your boyfriend
I had some near horror stories with my mother when she was alive. Lots of times she THOUGHT she was doing me a favor by starting to cook up something rather than me and say I'd be out at the time when she decided to cook. I'd come home to a hazy smoke...she had fallen asleep while she was cooking whatever it was...don't ask how many times there be a burnt food mess to clean up after

Your Mom reminds me of an exfriend. He was sooo lazy (he still is), anyhow he had put a pan of oil on the stove to heat up. He turned the heat on high and then went into the other room and started playing computer games. The oil caught fire and he still played his games. The house filled with smoke and he kept playing his games. FINALLY he smelled the smoke and decided to see what was wrong. He went into the kitchen to find the pan burning away, the vent hood melted (it was a metal hood no less) and the fire was preparing to spread. Fortunately he didn't panic and put a cookie sheet over the frying pan and turned off the stove. There was about $1500 damage to the stove, hood and kitchen.

That's pretty hilarious for sure..
I couldn't contain my laughter too when I read this. Suddenly remembering my idiotic moments as well when I cook something and then forget to add water, but not for instant noodles anyway. The smokey smell, I can definitely relate to that..

Ha! You mean he didn't get the noodle bowl in "smoky" chicken or beef flavor? Or that he liked extra crispy noodles? This reminds me of what I did just the other day . . . all I had to do was heat up some chicken taquitos in the microwave for like 1 minute. I must have hit some other number because it sure seemed like a long time that it was nuking in there. When I took them out, there were dark burn spots (holes) in them - smelled like burnt popcorn. I actually tried to eat them - it was like chicken taquito jerky . . . all the moisture got zapped out of them. The chicken filling was more like hickory chips - blechhh!!!

LoL! Yes, water is needed!
If you have time, just add in boiling water and cover the the lid for like 5~10 mins and you will have a bowl of nice Nissan noodle.
Microwave the noodles sounds very dangerous especially without water. No offense, just had a good laugh to start my day. Thank you for sharing! Cheers

I think so those noodles would have turned out crispy, but I am not sure about the taste. I am used to the smell of burnt milk, as I experienced it many houses.

I've burned eggs and baked potatoes. What tickles me so much about my boyfriend is that he is so precise in everything and here he goes and burns his noodles.

well, i learned from your boyfriend too. always add water! good thing was, the house was not on fire or whatever. microwave works like lightning, the heat travels fast. no wonder his shirt smells smoky.
for sure, both of you will remember nissin noodle meals. and i will remember the noodles too. now i am hungry for noodles (with water).lol

I am eating a package of the noodles right now (I remembered the water ) I don't know what it is about noodles but I love the nissin noodle meals especially when I can put a larger amount in my mouth and feel the warmth and mooshiness of them.
The other funny part of the whole story is that his house is always nice and neat and clean, to think of his having something smoky in the kitchen is a riot.
