I'm about to reach my last few days in college and there have been job fairs all around campus last month. I had some interviews here and there but I still don't have a job at the moment. We still have classes but I just want to be sure about my future that's why I'm looking for a job. But apparently, job hunting is REALLY hard. How about you, did you have a hard time looking for a job? How many months did it take you to find one?

I was in the same situation as you was around 2 years ago, the market those days was much better but I still had problems to find job, even when everything went fine at the end, I was very stressed out those days because of that, but you have to realize that you are competing against a lot of people in the university where you are studding, but I am sure you will have a job soon, just don't desperate.

Hi, Pierrella! First of all, congratulations and welcome to the real world! I remember when I was a fresh graduate like you, I was also very anxious to find job and think about my future. Of course, fresh graduates are dreaming of a good career in their chosen field. During my time, it was not easy to find job because call center industry was just blooming as well as the online tutorial industry but now it's everywhere. It's not really hard to look for a job especially if you're not choosey. The usual dillema of fresh graduates are those big companies who accept fresh graduates but looking for experience. Anyway, I know you can do it. Just be confident during the interview and find a company that is a good training ground, these companies are usually the small ones but you'll learn a lot from them.

Hopefully :) Yes there are still a lot of call centers around. The thing is, a lot of banks and other oil companies are on freeze hiring right now. Maybe it's an effect of the current economic crisis. But yeah, there's still hope. lol. Thanks Shylambert

It took me only two weeks to get my first job. But I submitted many resumes, went to many interview and took a lot of technical exams before that. I took the first job that was offered to me because I thought it's really hard to find a job these days. I need to grab the first opportunity that come my way.

Good for you :) I don't want to send out too many resumes coz I'm afraid that they'll call all at the same time. That was what happened during my internship but apparently, real life employment is different

When I graduated in college, I already landed a job after graduation. I applied to this job before our graduation ceremony. but I only stayed there for 1 day, because the working place was so far. So far that when I got there I was wasted already and very dirty. Add the facility, the facility is not good. I hate the people too, because they don't know how to treat new employee. They were just there gave me my future work without even training me. So i decided from that day I will never come back. After that horrible experience, I landed my first job on December that year. I guess it passed six months before I got the job I really need and wanted. Its hard to find a job, and its good that you are looking for it now. But do not stress yourself over it, you will find a job in a near time. What I hope for is your parents will support you and not force you to find a job. I know you are responsible lady, I know they will understand if you are having a hard time. Tell you girl, all of us experience having a hard time finding a job. Or else try to apply in a call center to have a job in a near time. But I wish you landed a job based on your choosen field. Be patience. I will pray for you.

And you will never grow in that kind of environment. All you will feel is stress and hatred. And those kinds of negative feelings is very bad to our health, and give us trauma. It is bad for the first timer in professional league like you.

What a first job experience for you... but I'm glad you were able to decide fast and left the company right away. I don't want to work in a company where employees treat you in a rude manner. It just shows how bad their company culture is...

I had hard times looking for jobs, but I take the time with spirit. I was not too worried because I had a job in hand even though I was not happy with that job. It was god's mercy that I got the job I wanted to get after trying for some time. We won't realize the value of anything when we get it when we wish to get. But, when we get it after some effort, we realize it and take care of it.

I sure did..I graduated in 08 and am paying back loans. I've been in my own cleaning business for about 8 years and the main interview question I seemed to get was "why do you want to leave it?" Also I was told that they had received 500 applications...even Walmart had that outcome! Amazing. I do think the economy has improved by a very slight amount. I think you really have to be out there on a daily basis trying hard and keeping those eyes open. Good luck. What did you go to school for?

I think the people who have the best chances have two things: personality and volunteer experience..employers seem to be looking for those two things and it gives you distinction among the masses.

I didn't have a hard time looking for a job. I had a job working in the school library when I was in college. Before I worked at the school library, I worked in the public library and met this guy who was teaching. So when I graduated, I left the university library in August and this guy helped me get a teaching job in September. Now I have a hard time looking for a job.

While a student I was working for Detroit Public Library and this guy was working in the Science and Technology section of the library. One day I entered his department to do research on doing analysis of variance for a psychology project. Since he knew I was good in math he started bugging me to come to his school to teach math. It wasn't until I graduated from the university that I decided to fill out an application at his school.
My job at Purdy Library of the university (during my last two years of college I left Detroit Public Library to work there) was only part time (20 hours) and I made half as much as I'd make at the teaching job. So when I graduated, I applied at the school where my friend worked. I got the job in August. It was the best job I've ever had. I worked 35+ hours a week with teacher's pay, benefits, and a retirement plan.

It is really difficult to get a job these days especially with the current economical conditions prevailing. I just graduated in September of 2009 and started blasting my resume all over the city, rarely getting interview calls.
With two months of no call backs, i took to the internet for jobs and have been pretty successful at that. I started taking up techincal writing projects, project proposals and other business related projects. These were not ongoing projects and instead were generally one-off projects, where you just finish a report and get paid. 5 months of continous freelancing and i was hired by a comapany as their offical "Content Writer"
What i'm trying to get at here is that dont only send out your resumes the old fashioned way. This is the age of the Web 2.0 You can always turn to the internet for finding jobs.

Well, ya. But it depends on your preferred field. Your way is really helpful if you're into freelancing, technology, web, etc. There are other ways via web. It's a good thing that there are sites such as jobstreet.com who brings together companies and individuals. But no all companies are there so we still gotta look for them with our own initiatives.

I did have a hard time looking for a job. I graduated last year as a postgraduate. As you know, the year 2009 had been a difficult time for nations all over the world. We suffered badly from financial crisis which is not completely over even for now. Many firms went bankrupt and lots of people lost their jobs. I tried hard to find a job. I went to numerous interviews but not a single company accepted me. That's really frustrating. Then i thought of looking for a job as a college teacher and i succeeded after many difficulties. Compared with those who are not able to find a job even now, i'm still a lucky dog. I just want to tell you don't be too hard on yourself. Trust yourself and always have faith in your self, and you'll be sure to get a job.

Finding a job isn`t easy now, as the economical situation is still bad, but it doesn`t mean that finding a job in the past was easier. In my case, it took a few months to find a job, the last one took 4 months or so. Don`t give up, it`s hard for everyone to find a job but the only way is to work hard on the search. I hope you find a good job

Hi..Job hunting is really hard and sometimes disappointing. Dont get discouraged, my case it took me 4 years to get into a best dream job. And i know the 4 years, it was hard and we need to be more smart and have lots of patience. My advice is just focus, stay active, never go disappoint or give up. It may take either 6 months or 3 years too..but surely dream job will be ours!

Decades ago, there were still few people in the Philippines. As long as you have diploma, you can find job very easy. But now, it is like even if have diploma, you still end up with jobs that are lower than your course. Some even end up as maids abroad. It is sad. It is now dog eat dog. Competition is hard

Yes I agree with you. The economy then was still young and it's even easy to get rich (like the tan's and the sy's) but today is really different. Even though you have millions to invest, there is still no assurance of success.
