Who came up with race?

Who came up the term race and what does it mean to you? To me it is a social construct not based in science but upon people who wanted to be superior to others that didn't look exactly like them and thus wanted to make others feel inferior. It does not exist and should be abolished from our vocabulary. What are your thoughts on the subject?

Race was made to define difference between similar subjects that are yet- too different from eachother to belong in the same group.
Race in humanity is something else. Humans are a race of a certain creature type, chinese, african, jews, arabs etc... are human 'races'. I agree with you, it is wrong to call it a race. Instead it should be called ethnic groups. Even if you do so, and even that usage of the word 'race' will be gone, some humans will still demote other ethnic groups. They will still hate them and try to hurt them... there is nothing we can do about it because it's the government and the police's job to deal with it, not ours.
