I don't agree with the common beliefs that money is the root of all evil! This is the most common error we learn from our ancestors or religious people, and it keeps many in poverty and a slave to money. That, by the way, is the only way we may judge money as "evil" when it controls us. And that only happens when we feel we need it, because we're coming from scarcity and lack. When you come from abundance, money becomes a tool we need to fulfill our life purpose. That's why we're here, right?
When the pockets are always loaded with cash, a person becomes restless as he is seeking for something money cannot give, something that he does not know nor can name. He doesn't have peace of mind as wealth alone does not guarantee us happiness in life. But of course when money speaks everybody listens. I do not have much money, are you listening to me? With money spoken words hold more weight than those who have nothing. Maybe many would agree with me that there is difference between being wealthy and being poor. But definitely money is no evil if we don't treat money as our master.

hi. i would love to say that money is the root of all evil too until i sat down and thought of the following scenarios.
money used to buy weapons of mass destruction, for example, could well be equated with evil.
but, on the other hand, if the SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY were to be used to feed, clothed and housed the victims of the recent Haiti earthquake, would you now consider otherwise.
money is money. it is a means of exchange for goods and services. it is neither evil nor good although it may command a profound influence over evil or good.
it is the person who uses money for evil or for good who should be judged and punished or rewarded for the evil or the good deeds they have done with the money.

You are so right, money is a tool, and how we use it determines if it is good and evil.

I agree that money is not the root of all evil as money can do great things.
Money can help others who are in need. It can buy shelter and food for us. It can help us to stay healthy.
My take on it is that the LOVE OF money and the greed that comes from that love is the root of all evil. It is usually the people without money that have a love of it as they need it more and often resort to greed in order to obtain it. Those who come from an abundance mindset have no love of money as they are happy with what they have and are grateful with everything that they have received.
The ones that have no love for it and are not desperate for it are usually the ones who attract the money more easily. These are the truly wealthy people. There are some people who have lots of money who I do not consider wealthy as they still desire more. Those who are happy and comfortable with their finances are the truly wealthy ones.

love the comment! It is unfair to term money as evil as money is an important thing that grease our daily living. Without money life is impassable as we are living in a materialistic world where everything is money and even opening the mouth means money. But greediness has made people do evil things to acquire wealth.

Money is not the root of all evil. I agree with you. It is the intention with which we use the money that can be evil or not.

To me definetly money is not evil, no one is meant to be poor and in need. Money means education, better living standards for all! no money is not evil only some people are evil with or without money I don't think most criminals out there have a lot of money but they are most evil.

hi there...
i tink that statement is absolutely stupid.. i mean how can money make some one evil..? it depends on the people and their mind sets... if they become evil once they have a lot of money then we should say that they had that insticts somewhere in their subconcious minds and it just started to show up...
money is very good and it is one of the most important factor of a happy life...

Money is roots of all evil. Two way many money makes evils to us. Lake of money and enormous money. Habit is ruined want. When people don't get the minimum necessity to maintain the livelihood people apply the wrong way. The path of evil is shorter than the right way. So people tends to this short way. Thus want of money ruins us.
Now effect of enormous money. When we get more the our want we use that for luxuries. And luxuries is the acts of devil. Saint live the live and devil enjoy the life. That is the difference of saint and devil. When we get money more than necessity we turn into devil. Life turn into a luxuries. We start to entertain ourselves. We adopt all the bad habits.
So Money is the cause of all evils. Short of money cause the damage of life and sufficiency of money also harmful to us.

Character is not slave of money. I get good people from both community which are rich or poor. Money is used to facilitate the life. We use money. But when we go under salvation if money our character is changed. Till then human remain as human still we use money. When money starts to use us then we are changed. Once human civilization was run without money. The concept of money comes to facilitated the exchange. But day by day money got stronger than stronger. And now whole system comes under salvation money. It is right that money is needs of all bur money oriented people never be a good people. it is very critical to analyze how people remain their good character in present materialistic world. Ethical thought are surprised in modern social system. And money acc4elarated the damage.

The actual phrase that is often misquoted is "The love of money is the root of all evil" and you can have an extreme love of money whether you are rich or poor. If you are rich and you love money you will put money above all other relationships in your life. You will use your money as a goad to prod others into doing what you like, you will believe that your money gives you human dignity and worth and puts you above all others. You will use money to make people your slaves.(Not all wealthy are this way, that is just the people who suffer from the love of money). If you are poor the love of money and the need for money can drive you into dishonesty to try to gain it, or hypocrisy to pretend you already have it, or servitude so that you can be around it's aura. It tarnishes your self respect. Again, not all poor people are that way, only those who have been infected with the extreme love of money. Either way people experience great emptiness in their lives that money cannot fill.

Sigmund Freud has said,"Any human action springs from one of the two basic motives: Aggression or Se..x!!!"
I wouldn't discuss the later one here.. But Aggression is to be discussed.. Some other psychologist named aggression as 'Feeling of Importance...' or 'Craving to be desired...' It is this feeling of importance that makes us seek for money and more of it, when we don't have it enough... To a middle-class fellow, the feeling of importance comes with wealth. Suppose a clerk works hard for 20 years of his life and then buys a car with his savings, he is proud of it. Of course, he is proud of his being able to buy a four-wheeler, which are so expensive in our country. The Feeling of Importance came from his new car and the new car came with the money that he'd saved..
A rich fellow who has a lot of it. He is born in a rich family. At such times, when money is not a big issue, such people crave for real Love or Peace or Culture etc- things that money can't buy.
It wouldn't be proper to say that money isn't the root of all evil.. Money certainly plays a bigger role. It is the Devil's pet bait. A poor, a middle-class guy or a rich guy- all of them want money... Almost 50% or more crimes are committed for the cause of money and the rest of them for se.x.. Yes, money plays a huge role in criminal cases...
Have fun!

i believe that money can be the root of all evil because if a man or woman gets blinded and seeks power over money, it can conquer a persons state of mind. there are countries listed on top 10's most corrupt country survey and you know that it mainly talks about money right? it really depends on the person on whom he/she handles money matters.

i also do not agree that money is the root of all evil. it really depends on how the necessity is. but who doesn't need it? what i believe is money makes me happy. why? if i have much of it, wife will not get mad at me or will not get easily irritated even with a small thing in the house, like for example, the noisy kids, or when some left a the comfort room untidy, etc. because i can make her happy too if he needs something for her or for the house and i will not make a second thought where to get money, i can give her anytime... it makes me feel sad to see people, specially little kids begging for a small amount of money to buy them something to eat. but it will make me feel happy if i can hand them even a dollar, so they can get hungry. much more if i can bring them to a nice restaurant and let them all eat with my own money... it just depend on how we use the money or how we need it.

hi zandi
money seem to still hold the 'power' against man ... A man will marry an ugly rich woman, a woman may marry a old rich widower ...
How many such incident have you seen .. Man marring 'really ugly' woman, a woman marring a 'poor' old widower ..
God is everywhere, but why do people travel elsewhere to pray to god and get more blessings .. can they get at their own place ... well when one has the money, he can spend to go to places like India or Arab or Rome to get blessings ..
I have seen at some 'praying house' where people of money is respected than poor people like me ..
Money is not evil but it is what makes human evil
cheers

Some people don't marry for love anymore. She rather marry an ugly toad than a dashing good looking guy with empty pockets. It is no longer love is blind but money can blind any woman into commitments. There are too many gold diggers around and opportunist men who dream of living in mansions!

I think that it is not money that is the root of all evil but the love of money. Some people use money as a measure for their self worth and others will go to all kinds of evil means to obtain it. Having money is not a bad thing after all we all need it to live comfortably and anyone who has not had enough at times will tell you how miserable life can be when there isn’t enough to pay the bills! I think money is a tool and we should control it, not the other way around and yes, there are some things that are way more precious than any amount of cash!

Hello, Zandi, I really agree with you!Money is only a thing which is created by people. It's only a thing. So you cannot say if it's good or not. All of these depend on peoples' thoughts and how people use it! Of course, we heard so many negative stories about money, some people do crime to get money or because they have much more.
But we should also note that some money also be used to help those who are in any kind of troubles or difficluties. For example, some people are too poor to see doctors, and charity organizations spend money which is donated by other people on it. So...money here is an angle instead of the evil.
But unfortunately, it's natural that people to shift the blame on others. Here is money. People always say, look, s/he do this for money. But it's unfair to money, money without life. Haha...

I am sure that it is not money but rather the love of money that brings evil. The Bible states in 1 Tim. 6:10 states "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." Well this is very clear and it speaks of truth. Money by itself is a beautiful thing. We do love to have more money because that brings us comfortable living. However when we become too centered on money and have learned to love it more than anything else in this world then that is already wrong. Surely it is this wrong attitude towards money that brings so much evil in this world. It results into cheating, stealing, greediness, discontentment, strife, and a lot more evil things.

I appreciate the wise words of a shrewd man. There are always advantages and disadvantages of having too much or too little money. At both ends they make or break the behavioral characters of human beings. Let money be our servants and we won't fall to evil deeds.

I don't know anyone who believes money is good. Most people believe that money causes problems and fights. Those with unlimited amounts of money incur problems too, because they become lazy and appear to be selfish. It would be nice if no one had to work for money, but the fact that we all get different amounts causes hatred. As long as I can get the basic necessities of life, I am fine without having a load of money.

Money is not the cause of any good or bad. Its just the human mind, which creates all evils. Money is just a tool used for it. Its the society given the status to rich people. A man with money can do anything as he has respect and power in the world. The one who doesn't remains helpless. Who have given these differences, its we..so, we cant blame those coins and dollars!

Yes money was never the root of evil. But it is a case of misunderstanding? Money is intenned to be here for something. And that is necessity. Thing that we need to survive that we can'nt get free. It is a matter of understanding our needs. We should not let the concepy of money get the best of us thus we should strive harder for a better future.
Thus money as acient times said time and time again is the root of evil. To explain this would be going back to the time of Jusus Christ when Judas betrayed the Lord for 13 pcs of silver.
I think that is where they got that saying about money since silver is the currency then.
