hi. i remember the time when in school we had any doubts ,we used to run to our beloved teachers. we were completely dependent on them. it felt good they are giving their personal time (other than class ) to clarify our doubts. but i think , nowadays students no longer needs teachers help as all the information is available on net. the importance of teacher has been forgotten by all. do you agree?

I don't think so.
I think face-to-face communication between teachers and students is very important. An experienced teacher always knows what you think and need when talking. He/she will give you more than answers. Such as why you are wrong and how to correct. Teachers' personal experience will help students a lot too.

There are many things that can`t really be found on the net so you need books, teachers.
Ofc you can find a physics formula on the internet, or how to solve a math problem. But it will be very hard to find information about people, history, literature (not talking about well known ppl, events in the world but local stuff) on the internet. It can be faulty, it can very primitive, it may even not exist on the net.

Internet cannot replace the position of a teacher imparting learning to a group in the classroom. Internet could be relied upon better as an alternative reference source.

I think internet has taken the place of books and not of teachers. We need teachers. But, compared to olden times, we are not referring books. If we have any question on any topic, we directly start the computer, connect intenet, and search. We should be carefuel to decide on if we should believe the content or not.

we cannot say internet has completely taken the place of teachers. yes, it has helped us a lot and i would like to say it's a supplement to our teacher. we can learn a lot from the internet. in fact, i'm learning to play the guitar on my own for the past one year and three months and internet has been almost exclusively the sole knowledge provider for me. that's because i chose not to have a teacher. i don't want to limit my learnings to a particular style or course. but i don't think it's right to say that the internet has taken the teachers' place. we still need teachers just as much as we did before.

hmmmmmmmmm!!
i think there is a difference of emotions , there is no doubt that internet has a bulk of information , but learning from a teacher is completely different. lets take an example of muscle building , i started it form the internet , when i used to get tried i stopped , but when i started going to the gym , the force of the instructor the environment , surrounding people doing the same thing . I learn new thing from the internet but i end up going to the teacher to master it...^_^

i understand what you mean, during those times the internet was a thing of the future yet to be seen but now we are living in the future we just thought about. Although the internet holds so much information yet nothing beats human interaction. There is something that the internet can't beat that is the creation of idea through interaction, and there is dun while doing it. People get to explore possibilities not yet contained in the internet and of course when I need someone to really help me understand I need another human being to patiently teach me and point out things.

i think to an extent it has, but there are other things that teachers teach and give to students that internet cannot give. While ou can find answers online sometimes people need that human interaction to learn what is actually being said instead of just reading it off the screen.

Hi ksmita ;)
Good question. :) This query is one of the issues raised in my profession. With the advent of the internet, can it really replace teachers? Well for me I don't think so, because I still believe that human brain is more reliable than a computer brain. Besides, real interaction is still important and essential to us humans that's why formal classroom instruction is still needed despite new learning resources.
The main point is that, I believe the reason why most e-learning resources tick is because they all have these three essential qualities an effective teacher should possess: 1. interactive 2. entertaining 3. innovative.
If you'll observe, most tech stuffs tick because they are good in entertaining, in communicating and providing something new to people. Sad truth is, most teachers don't realize this and I won't deny that a lot of teachers don't have ALL these three important qualities. Either they only have one, and they lack the others.
What a computer can't do is that they can't understand human emotions. Obviously, computers can't stand as second parent to students, and despite the rise of technology I still believe humans still need human connection which makes a teacher still in demand today. Yes if you'll observe, ironically teachers are still in demand abroad despite new learning resources and I believe what I have said is just one of the reasons why ;)

I personally live in a state where many of the teachers are getting fired or the schools are closing they need to give our kids some education online.

In many ways, the Internet has fulfilled many of the same functions that teachers have to be honest. There is a wide variety of information that is available at your disposal that you can learn in pretty much now time. Plus, there is information beyond what might be in the textbooks that can give even more understanding. However, there is something that to be said about the personal one on one interaction with a teacher being more enriching than the actual looking up information on the Internet.
Still, the Internet has made the lives of teachers much easier. Those teachers that have embraced the Internet will allow them to be able to teach their classes with a wider variety of information than ever before. In fact, it will allow the teachers to learn even more themselves and help their students even more. So it has not really replaced the teachers and in many ways, it has enhanced precisely what the teachers can do.

I don't agree that internet has taken the place of teachers. Yes, internet can provide us profound answers and informations to our questions. However, only teacher can reach out and step up or down to the level based on the person's level of understanding. Only teachers have the understanding and patient heart to listen and feel the emotions of humankind.
Internet can never replace teachers. Teachers produce professionals. Professionals make internet possible. Internet is perhaps just secondary.

Not all things being taught in the school can be found on the internet. You will see all theories in the internet but you still have to go back to real life situations to put it in application. values are caught in school which I believe makes a school still the best place for us to learn.
