Atheism is not a religion but the Soviet Union was very religious, too religious for their own good. The religion of the Soviet Union had a deity, the state, unquestionable loyalty from it's follower, the citizens, and prophets like Lenin and Stalin. Atheism allows freedom of thought but religion has no room for freedom of thought. Atheism allow people to live their own life yet religion does not. Which goes back to my point about the Soviet Union having their own form of religion.
