My children goes to school with uniform and I think I like to see them in their cute uniforms. Before, my daughter goes to school where they don't wear uniforms and it was a little bit difficult for us coz we gotta buy lots of clothes for my daughter because it would be such a pity to see her using the same clothes all the time. Same with shoes too. Another thing, some children would often compare their clothes to each other and if you're not wearing something nice they might make fun of you.
When I was in high school, there was 1 day in a week that we don't wear uniform. Girls most often would showoff during this day. On my 2nd year that freeday was taken off.
I think wearing uniform minimizes cost of buying clothes all the time and inequality among students. Nobody is above from the other if they are wearing the same thing.
What about you, what do you prefer to wear uniform or not?

Hi Rajaiv,
That's one of the exciting things i want to see my kids wearing comes school days. i see "mini professionals or little professionals" in them when they are in uniform. the problem is we need to buy several sets and before the year ends we need to buy new sets because it does not fit them anymore. at least it's a positive problem...seeing them growing fast hehehehe.

it's a form of identification too. anything happens while they are outside they can easily be recognized plus the fact that they have have their IDs. i find them so neat and well respected cutie ones while they are in uniform.

I go back and forth on this subject all of the time. One of my first real papers I had to write in school was about kids wearing uniforms or not. I went to a catholic school so we were required to wear uniforms and I didn't care personally but then after awhile I got tired of it. Personally I could not express who I was/am as a person with wearing the same thing as every one else. Yes I understand it saves money when you buy uniforms but not that much. I remember my mom had to buy a couple of skirts for me then a couple of pants and shirts plus sweaters and shoes and they were expensive. For 1 skirt alone was close to $50 and I wasn't going to wear the same skirt every single day out of the year so she bought me two or three. Then shirts same thing. They had to be white and the more you wore them the more used they got. So over all she probably spent the same if not more for my uniforms than just regular clothes. I'm not saying she bought me 5 of every single item but uniform prices have gone up to a ridiculous amount not even including tuition! Plus on top of her buying me my uniform she would have to buy regular clothes for me too b/c I wasn't in school on the weekends.
Now if you're talking about kids that are spoiled and their kids just want all the new things all of the time then yes it can be more costly to buy name brand clothes but if you teach your kids that bargain shopping is cool and you can create your own style with different pieces and still look like you have money and are in the fashion trends then that fine. Those are the same clothes they're going to wear when they're not in school too. I remember coming homes after school and my mom would make me change out of my uniform so I wouldn't mess it up b/c then she would have to pay at least $80 to get a new shirt and pants or skirt.
So it really just depends on the person. I feel uniforms hold back one's personality but at the same time I can see where it may leave some kids out b/c they don't have the latest fashion but I feel that if you bargain shop and create your own fashion then it shouldn't be too hard

Hi Lochoa you have a good point there. There are schools really who charged a lot for the school uniforms and it's just too much at times. We're lucky my children's uniforms don't cost that much.
I also like the idea of bargain shopping as I'm not a brand conscious shopper anyway. You can have value for your money as long as you know where to go.

Hi rajaiv,
I maybe old fashion but I do prefer school children wear their school uniform while at school, when I was in school we all had to, when one of the pupil forget to wear his/her blazer, they would be sent home to fetch it, it don't matter how far their journey would take or the or the school would ring the parent to bring the child's blazer, it was very strict where I was, I don't belive in children their own clothes. I used to be proud of my school uniform.

I remember when I was young that we were so proud as well if we are wearing our uniform. We are showing more our school not the economic status because our school is known to have good products. :)

hello rajaiv, I would prefer to wear uniform. Beside minimizing the cost, uniform makes every student feel equal, i mean there is no different between rich or poor students. They go to school to study not to show the pretty clothes that they have.

That's true. Other children wouldn't feel bad if they don't have expensive clothes.

I still go to school and I must say I wouldn't like to wear an uniform. I think that it might be quite uncomfortable and even abusive. I like to wear casual clothes, not formal ones, because casual clothes are often much more comfortable and look better on me. But that's my opinion.

Of course there is nothing wrong in wearing your own style. If you are in higher level already you understand more the style and not just focus on the brands. You can have a lot of stylish clothes even if is not that expensive. But for children sometimes they don't.
Experiment more on your fashion and you'll discover more styles and color combination in clothes.

I would prefer having a uniform so as not to worry combinations of clothes I would have to wear. It also looks much better. When I was still in the university though, we didn't have a uniform.

Neither I or my children have gone to schools where there are uniforms. I see the benefits of them but I have never been fond of the idea. You do make some really valid points, but I also know those uniforms are really expensive because my nieces went to a school where there are uniforms. To me uniforms take away a bit of individuality of the kids. Clothes were really important to me when I was in school and I was thrilled to wear things to school that I loved. My daughter is the same way. Even my son likes to wear certain things to school that he thinks are cool. I am not against uniforms but I prefer to let kids be more individual and choose what they wear and adapt their own styles.

I wish when my kids were going to school that they had uniforms. It would have saved alot of money. Every year though I would have to do a big school shopping because they dare not wear the same clothes over and over again. It was crazy not to mention buying sneakers and wanting the expensive pair which I could never afford. My girls drove me crazy when it came to shopping for clothes for school. Uniforms is the best way to go and it avoids alot of fights. In school there would be so many fights between kids and what they were wearing. The kids would steal other kids belongings because they couldn't have a name brand item, like Gucci.

Oh yes uniforms can really save us money. Before I used to buy like 2x a month of something new for my daughter. thank God at that time my son was not yet going to school. boys clothes here even more expensive. it's really difficult coz children learns to become brand conscious and it's getting to be difficult for parents.

At school i think its alright to have a uniform unless it is just horrible. Stops all the boys dressing like chavs and all the girls dressing like slags. Im at college now and having no uniform is like one of the big things that makes college college and not school :)

hell0! well, i prefer school with uniforms, because I really think that all the students in a school must look at the same way, so that no one feels ignored or depressed because some one else has more expensive clothes and looks better. it is really nice that all the students must go at school with uniforms, just because the school is not a fashion stage, it is a place where all the children must be equal and must learn, and not think they must show off their clothes!

Uniform is mainly to bring the oneness among the young buds. And the differences of each status like rich class, middle class or poor is completely unseen. It brings a healthy environment for kids to grow unitedly. As you said, it minimizes the cost of buying new formal dresses too.i

Yes,i prefer a school with uniform, because uniform is the identification of a school and symbol of a student. It creates a similarties between all of the student and shows a idol discipline.

Yes, uniforms for kids are great. That's less inexpensive because they'll be wearing the same set for at least a year, and that makes them feel equal with their classmates/schoolmates. When I was in college though, and cell phones werent around yet, I prefer no uniforms, because I sometimes miss announcements about having no classes the next day, so it gets embarrassing going to school in your uniforms when there are no classes and the gates are locked when you get there.

School uniforms are a great solution to bullying. Everyone wears the same thing. No body is any better than anyone else. Just the way it should be. My only problem is that they make the uniforms so expensive so the parents cant afford too many. The school should give the parents the first one free. Its terrible the way children pick on each other. This would take a little bit of it away. dl

actually one reason why uniform is a must is for the student of not to go anywhere after school. coz some students go to mall, go anywhere and do bad things if they are not wearing their uniform, they have the guts to do whatever they want as no one will recognize from where they are. like for example. if one student with uniform do something good like help people, people can easily recognize him by his uniform and the one that give credit is the school. thats why every school its their duty and responsibility to produce a good student as its a big credit to them.

i have a teaching job at a public high school here in my place and uniforms for students are important so as for us to know the outsiders or non-students of our school. If we don't insist on students to wear their uniforms, they are prone to violence from students from other schools who invade ours. Uniforms in our school serve as security measures too. If they don't wear their uniforms then they are penalized with a fine for the first time and if they commit more than once then they are to be sent home and can enter the school again if they have their uniforms. But they have the freedom to wear what they like during Fridays only.

School with Uniform is important that it will result in making the school a better place. Many parents have expressed concerns about school uniforms. A fixed school uniform promotes good discipline, helps students perform academically better and reduce violence.
