Hi, friends. We all appreciate that mylot provides a good opportunity for us to communicate in english. But not all mylotters here are native english speakers. There are maybe more non-native english speakers than native ones. For those non-native ones, they find mylot a good place to practise english as we are requested to post quality discussions, which needs a thinking and deliberating process. English is not my mother tongue. Though i've been learning this language for many years, i still have some problems, especially with idioms and slangs. I'm continually learning on mylot and i've found it helps me greatly. What's your idea? In what way do you think mylot helps you with english? Has your english been improved by mylotting? Looking forward to your response.

practice makes perfect, my friend chenxiaoyue. in getting across mylot regularly, you get to practice you english, including the finer points of good writing -- like putting across your message, which is correct presentation and composition; expressing yourself or making a response and comment would require some degree of facility withe english, it helps you improve your vocabulary. and there are others, just work out the details... from smaller to bigger...

Nice points. We can improve english in many ways while mylotting. The most basic one is writing. We are required to communicate through writing in mylot. The more we write, the more skillful we'll be at writing. We can learn good writing techniques and methods. As time goes by, you may not notice that your english has improved a lot.

Thanks, bystand. I'm really flatted. Sometimes I think it's difficult for me to find out whether I'm improving in English or just remaining at the same level as before. Perhaps I should have someone else help me check it.

here in mylot, i have encountered some words that i don't usually hear & use in my life and so i search for them...that way, even my vocabulary improves.

That's right, friend. We improve in various aspects while posting in mylot, such as writing skills, typing speed, vocabulary, etc. These are great benefits we cannot reap from doing other things. Moreover, we even get paid for sharing ideas, which is indeed a good mutitation urging us to keep on.

Posting here indeed improves our speed of typing as we need to move on quickly to next one as soon as we are finished with the previous one. I agree with you that there are so much to read here as various topics are discussed. By reading the discussions, we can enrich our knowledge in great ways.

Perhaps some people think that way. They don't care much about whether their English has improved since their joining in mylot. But what is sure about mylot is it does help non-native English speakers practise using English.

Thanks for your feedback. But my point is whether you think that posting on mylot helps with your english as we all have to write in english here. Even if you live in a place where English is not the mother tongue, you still have to use it, at least on mylot.

Hi chenxiaoyue,
In my daily live, I rarely use or can be said zero use of English language. For your information, I even fail in my English paper during my school days.
I only practice my English here, at Mylot. I can write more confidently in English since I join this site a few months ago. I would like to thanks to all our friends here who help me to do that. Otherwise, my English writing skills will be same as a year ago.
The only thing I want to improve now is my grammar and oral. It is hard to learn it here because grammar is not important in the discussion. As long other users can understand what we want to say then it is ok. Oral is impossible to be improved here since we just communicate in writing and not speak to each other.
I does not care too much about the slang because I believe even the native English speaker would find it hard to understand when others use their slang in the discussion, especially for those who are not familiar with the area where the speaker came from.

Thanks for responding. I believe all mylotters who are not native english speakers will find it comfortable to write in english here. They don't need to care about grammar or something else that are supposed to be regarded significant in formal occasions. They can write confidently without fearing being laughed at or blamed. That, i think, is a great advantage of mylot.

I think not much improvement. but there is a thing which i gained here is the lesser spelling mistakes which i generally do while typing. and an increase in my typing speed.
yes this is a good thing to improve and maintain the quality of the discussions. due to them i have improved my typing with lesser mistakes.

Through mylot i am able to express myself more clearly in my english writing skills. Words are more easier to find and my thoughts and ideas are more free flowing when responding to discussions. This is not like this when i was just starting. Like you, i'm not a native english speaker although we've been taught english since pre school. The good thing about mylot is you can hone your english skill overtime just by joining discussions. Adding to the fact that nobody seems to mind if our grammar is not proper at times. Feeling at ease in posting to discussion is important since you tend to focus more on your ideas and not on your grammar.

It let you practice through writing and you get paid for it. That's wonderful, don't you agree?
