Yes. I know that this theme has come up before but I think that it must be emphasized.
We have millions and millions of people sitting in front of the Idiot Box believing that they are getting an education.
AVATAR a simple rehash of Star Wars with a bit more Anarchistic and Hippy brainwashing thrown in. Everybody goes to see it, talk about it and feel that they are fighters against the exploiting human race. Meanwhile they continue to buy the latest trendy or cheep products that come from polluting or unethical manufacturers because the next advert has brainwashed them to.
We are moving to a brain dead society........
I have thrown the TV out of my house years ago and we have intelligent philosophical conversations with the children. They don't all agree with my opinions. They don't have to but they must think.
Argue with me...... if you can :))

I do accept your views that tv definitely possess many ill effects..however to throw it out of the house altogether is not a very good concept...the tv acts as a source of recreation and also gives us information on several topics of various nature..there are many educational channels which can benefit one and all by increasing our knowledge...however,it seems that you are much more interested to engage yourself in philosophical ideas and thinking and you want your children to do the same...but remember that each individual is different and so there is no hard and fast rule that once when your children will grow up they will support your viewpoint...if you want them to apply their brains then you can encourage them to read books more....getting rid of the tv is not a solution.

It is a common misconception to think that TV is educational. I have found that 95% of all information presented as true on TV is in fact false. As an example: The creators of the Nature programs really believe that we are all animals and they go a long way to edit their footage to prove this........

I don't watch TV.I do watch movies and fashion videos though.I watch movies and fashion videos to help stimulate my creativity.while I love my Ipod,I also love books.I am not an audio book fan.I would rather go and buy the book.I love seeing the words run across the pages.
