you can go to the tech support on the internet of the computer brand name. and a window will open up for live chat, and explain your problem, they will give you step by step instructions how you can fix it yourself for free. i have done it twice and it worked.

When you get the symptoms that you describe, you know the monitor is dying. It is not economic to repair it.
Buy a new monitor and make sure that you take the old one to a proper recycling place. Monitors contain dangerous chemicals which pollute the environment if they are disposed of in landfill.

You really can't repair those yourself, you need a qualified repair person to do that. Have you tried a known good monitor on your friend's PC?

for old CRT monitors, I know there is a complex way to fix the discoloration, since it's related to the magnetism inside the monitor, but I don't know about LCD monitors.
However, it sounds like something is just loose in your monitor. I suggest you definitely take it to a technician who specializes in monitors (and TV knowledge on top of monitor knowledge would be a helpful hint they know what they're doing). I say specialize, because there are a lot of IT people out there who haven't a clue how to fix a monitor if you asked them. Be weary.

If your monitor is CRT type, maybe have a bad solder joint in some point, maybe in the base of the tube.
But be aware... it's so dangerous to open and try to repair it if you not have the right tools and knowledge of this, in there are high voltages (even if the monitor is unplugged) so it could be better to go a service center to get it fixed properly...
