Eat (Chew) the grape seeds, DO NOT throw them!? why

the grapes on my table now! - i wish seedless grapes are as much heavily packed with anti-oxidants as its counterpart.

I am munching on grapes while typing this and having an uncomfortable time chewing the seeds! I want to to throw them but then...When you eat grapes and throw the seeds, you must think twice. The seeds contain high concentrations of Vitamin E, flavonoids, lenoleic acid, and OPCs (oligomeric proanthocyanidin complexes) - have been touted as powerful anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants are substances that destroy free radicals- harmful compounds in the body that damage DNA. This is vital to fight or better still to avoid diabetes, heart attack and cancer. Wow! is that not wonderful to know? How about you? do you prefer to buy the seedless grapes and not be bothered with the seeds? or choose the ones with seeds for its anti-oxidant contents?

and you are allergic to other fruits too? my sister lately developed allergy to fresh fruits! she dont know how it started but everytime she eats one, she'll throat pains and loose her voice for some days. She is not like that before. She even used to pick pecan nuts and eat them raw. Now its impossible. She got so sad she cut her fruits trees down. :-( She said it makes her feel bad when she will just let the fruits fall on the ground and up in the garbage.

I never buy anything but seedless grapes. BUT NOW, knowing that grape seeds have so many powerful anti-oxidants, I might just look for grapes with seeds and actually eat them. Then again, maybe not.

well you can do like i do : eat some throw some. lol Chewing every seed takes more time, you dont want to gulp sharp seed edges down.

Maybe it's just easier popping the whole grape. If we do that, we should probably have a friend around to "pop it back out" in case we choke.

Hello Tigerlily1972. I like your nickname, reminds me of how I loved to watch Peter Pan with my sisters when I was a little girl. Although it was not in 1972! Does it has anything to do with Tiger Lily at that movie? I didn't know all the information you posted here. I knew grapes had anti-oxidants but that was it. It is very interesting how all those vitamins and good things for us are in such small seeds. I've known since I was a teenager that we have to eat seeds, they help us, so I swallow them. I've only heard that the watermelon seeds prevent worms and bacterias to grow inside us. So I eat them, also the ones from oranges and some others including grapes. I don't eat the ones from lemon or papaya though! I saw that in the title you wrote in parenthesis chew, and you've mention it is uncomfortable to chew them. So if I swallow it no longer works? Or you chew them to prevent from chucking? Have a nice day and enjoy every minute of mylot. Libna.

Its been a while since I last ate grapes, usually I buy ones with seeds because I don't really mind. I remember the seeds always being very bitter when I did accidentally bite one though, which is why I just spit them out. Maybe next time I eat them I will put up with the bitterness and chew them for a while! :D

I think eating the grape seeds is a good thing. Based on the nutrition books I've read, seeds supply protein, fiber, and good fat. I buy grapes with seeds. I eat some and throw the rest outside for the birds and wildlife to enjoy.

I do that, eat some throw some. It is really a bother to eat them all - tiny hard thingy. Isn't it good to read facts! keep it up.

I would never eat the seeds from grapes, I usually only get the seedless grapes but I can't eat many of them as they seem to upset my stomach. I have no idea why they upset me though

Yuck. I don't know if I could eat the seeds. I know of the health benefits but man, eating grape seeds just sounds a bit nasty. Do you think the same benefits would come from simply swallowing them whole? Or would this make them harder to digest? I could just swallow them, but chewing...gross!

you are right, it is a bit gross. :-)

Interesting! I am just realizing that grape seed extract is from the seed - DUH - like I should have known that!! I have eaten grape seeds, but only because I was lazy and didn't want to spit out the seeds for whatever reason. I mostly don't eat them because they are a tad bitter . . . but if they are that powerful, I would certainly consider eating them from now on. Of course I will do some research on that though . . . as you may know, apple seeds have traces of cyanide in them, so I just want to double check on the grape seed info. And if you are correct, I'm gonna start eating my grape seeds!!!! Thanks for the info!

The seeds are a bit bitter - but when the grapes are sweet, you won't notice it. And do come back after your research - any enriching infos are welcome!

Oh yeah! I've always heard of the benefits of grape seed extracts, but I never really thought of eating the seeds straight off my grapes! I can give it a try sometimes though. My family usually buys seedless grapes to save us the hassle of having to spit out annoying seeds, but this discussion just might change that. My mom is a sucker for healthy foods, and I guess if I tell her all about the benefits of grape seeds we'll be bidding seedless grapes bye bye anytime soon!

I actually thought these grapes i bought today are seedless ~ bought them for my daughter's lunch box for school. She do not like the ones with seeds - you know 6 yr olds. I guess i'll end up cutting them in halves for her tomorrow. b.t.w. tell your mom to do chew the seeds or they'll come out whole (anti-oxidants inside). :-)
