I just read an article- not sure if its true or not- but there's a rumor that there is talk about redoing the Wizard of Oz franchise. I, like many, grew up with Judy Garland in shiny ruby slippers skipping down the yellow brick road. I love that movie. However, according to what I read, the new Wizard of Oz movie would not be a remake of the classic version most of us know but be closer to the books; a bit darker in nature (closer to Disney's Return to OZ- which I also like). At first I thought that it wouldn't work but then I remembered that the miniseries The Tin Man was pretty dark and popular. Also with movie series like Twilight growing in popularity, there might be a good market for it. I've never read the original Oz books (I forgot there was more than 1) but this idea could really work. What do you think?

Are you talking about Wicked and those types of stories? I think it would be interesting to see a series about Oz. It would depend who would be doing it. I would love Steven Spielberg to direct. He would make a great movie and honor and respect the classic. I wouldn't want to see it if it is like Alice In Wonderland. And please don't make it 3D. I know that is the new trend but I just want to see a great movie without the cheap thrills. And of course who the cast was. I don't want to see a dark version of Oz. I want a family friendly Oz version and I wouldn't mind seeing a few Oz movies and get to know more characters. I haven't read the books I should check them out.

I read alot of the Oz books years ago and used to enjoy them. I think there could be a market (look at the new Alice) but if they're going to remake the actual Wizard content, it would have to be pretty brilliant to compare to the classic. Wouldn't mind seeing it though, as this is the only media some young people have to see classic works brought back to popularity.

I love the original wizard of oz movie. It is still one of my favorite movies of all time. My daughter son and I watched it together last night. It was their first time ever watching it and they liked it. I love that I watched this when I was young and now they watched it and we all enjoy it. To me it is a classic. I did see the tin man series. I enjoyed those and my daughter did as well.

i like the judy garland's wizard of oz, too. but if ever there will be a remake or, as you said closer to the book, then i'd go watch it. alice in wonderland was also somewhat dark but i still love it.
