Last Long Run Before the Marathon!

Well, it didn't even seem long really... just a nice easy 8 miler.
Now I just have a few short runs left (including a 5K with my mom this weekend). I can't believe it's almost time to run the marathon! I have to admit, I'm a bit afraid. But I'm trying not to get too nervous about it because then I may want to take off too quickly.
If anyone has last minute tips, that would be appreciated!

Woohoo! Way to go! Let us know how it goes! I am still training for my half. I have just worked up to 8 miles! lol!I hope to run the 8 again this week then bump it up to 10 next. After that, I'm almost there and so is the half marathon! lol! It's the end of April so I got a little time still. Can't wait to hear about your marathon!

Oh that sounds awesome! I hope your half will go well. I kind of wish I was running a half again, lol. Well, actually I can hardly wait to race a 10K now, or a 5K. Probably a month after the marathon though.
Today I did a 5K with my mom, but ended up running alone mostly until I met up with the girl from my group I was thinking of running with. So that was cool. I did a good 10:30 pace the first 2 miles, and then once I met up with that girl we were going pretty good. In the final sprint I saw my watch hit a pace it has never shown me before... 7:20. Isn't that just nuts? But overall I just had fun at the 5K since I wasn't racing it. Even that final sprint wasn't a huge effort or anything. I still had enough energy after to go volunteer with seals.
I'll definitely post all about the marathon!

Hey that is pretty good though! And you don't have to worry about speed on long runs, those are just for increasing distance.
The fastest mile I ever did in a 5K was an 8:38 on the last 5K I did. I want to either train for a 5K or a 10K after I've recovered from the marathon. No more long distances for awhile.

That's a sweet run! I haven't ever seen 7:20! Probably won't either! I think I did a mile in between 7-8 one day when I was on a run and got called in to work and had to get there in a hurry though! My second 5K I made the first mile in 9:10 that was good for me too! I have shaved some time off though. When I do my easy, long runs I am down to about 12:30 I used to be up around 14:30 or so! I guess that's at least improvement especially for someone nearing a half a century old!!

I look forward to hearing how well you do. You can be proud of yourself for doing this. It has been a long training period and you have stuck to it. Did you find that posting it on MyLot made you more accountable? It has been good to go on this journey with you.

Well I don't have any tips I'm afraid but I just want to wish you the best of luck for the day.
I like how you called the 8 miler and easy run LOL.

Thanks for the luck!
I got an email the other day that said "You know you're a runner when you use the words "easy" and "10-miler" in the same sentence." LOL But I can still remember a time when I thought running 6 miles was an incredible long distance.

Running is amazing! And whle an 8 miler isnt that long, it also isnt all that short. Especially beofre a marathon. Ive never done one beofer but Ive always wnated to try! Good luck, we're pushing for you! Keep hydrated and dont eat after an hour beofre! Remember to pace.

I think I'm going to end up not eating before. I know this sounds crazy, but I was thinking about something. I never eat before training runs. I always feel sick if I eat early in the morning. And I eat so much on long training runs that it makes up for not eating before. So I think I'll stick with that. On the half marathon I ate a small breakfast, but it made me feel sick at the beginning.
I will definitely try my hardest to pace myself. That is definitely the key thing I think.
Thanks!!
