How many times in a year you change your keyboard or mouse?

Last night, I spilled my glass of Coke on the keyboard, and my keyboard died drowned. In the morning I bought another, because the keyboard was flooded again with Cola, is the two of time in the last few months. How long you using the same keyboard and same mouse, and how much you care not to ruin them, because they are most vulnerable to failure. I think I will have to install an anti water, a kind of umbrella for keyboard and mouse.

Hahahah!!!! it is funny. Firstly I m never eat or drink near my PC. WHEN I am on work I m only doing that. I think when you eat or drink you need to be very relax and calm. so that your food can be converted into blood and bones nicely. so firsly never eat or drink when you are into work. or take some time to come out of work and eat or drink.

You're right in what you say, and I agree with you, theoretically, because practically i can t sit in front of computer without coffee, cola or a glass of water or a fruit, something, I hate to get up always take something to me, and I say so as not to hold it is nothing to spill on the table computer, but after a few days after I bought a new keyboard look, and again I take my glass of a drink here ...i must buy an umbrella too..

Hi marianna, I'm sorry to learn that it's unfortunate that the same unlucky thing happened twice and damaged your two keyboards within a short period. Sometimes I do take food and beverage in front of my laptop. To prevent food or drink dirtying my keyboard I cover the keyboard with a piece of keyboard protector. It's a piece of soft transparent thin plastic-like cloth which I purchased from the computer shop I did change the keyboard of my old desktop which I had been using for six years. All because they were out of order. But I forgot how many mouse I have been using since the first time I work on computer. I have been using the current wireless for nearly two year. I'm quite satisfied with it for it serves it's purpose really well Have a nice day and happy posting

Hi marianna45, the golden rule at our school computer lab is that no food or drinks are allowed. This avoids such accidents. Besides that it is unhygienic to have spoiled hands typing and then someone else have to use the keyboard after you. At home yes sometimes I do drink tea in front of computer but I make sure that it is a safe place from the keyboard so I don't spill on it. I have been using the same keyboard/mouse for the past 3 years when I bought the computer system.

Just buy a liquid proof keyboard. They are dirt-cheap these days and they don't require you to clean them up as oft as you would do garden variety KBs. Or much better attend an agility/dexterity workshop which would greatly improve your hand-eye coordination preventing those mishaps waiting to happen according to Murphy's law =P. Cheers!

I only change the keyboard in my laptop when I need to, and I changed it a few months ago, when my cat managed to flip a plate of Chinese food over on the computer. I got sticky soy sauce in the stupid keyboard, and all of the keys stuck. It got really really really annoying, and I took it to the computer store to get it changed.

I hae used the same keyboard and mouse for many years now. I am very carefully if I have a drink next to me and keep it well away form the keyboard. My keyboard is a Logitech cordless one and I have had it for so long that some of the letters are wearing off the keys. It's fortunate that I rarely look down at what I am typing because I only my fingers seem to know what the right keys are! _Derek

I don't change my mouse or keyboard until it breaks. I can't afford to and even if I could afford to I just figure why replace something that isn't broken. I try to take a bunch of care not to ruin any of my computer stuff, but sometimes it's easier said than done.

Ive been using computers since 2003 and have only had 2 keyboards. The last one was still working but when i got my new computer there was a new keyboard so i changed because it has volume control on it. My old one didnt have that. I keep mine covered with plastic. I get a ziplock bag cut it open to lay flat. I cover the key side and tape it under on the bottom side. If not mine would have all kinds of stuff on it and ruined too like yours was. You get used to the plastic after awhile. But youd save alot on key boards. You have to change the plastic now and then too coz it wears out on some of the more used keys. But when a spill happens its easy to wipe off. Plus my desk has a shelf below the desk for the key board. If it wasnt my Kat family would be more internet savy.

This multitasking age has made it a common occurence to eat in front of the computer. I think its why obesity is on the rise again. When we were kids, my parents insisted that we only in the dining table. Now, I don't think twice about bringing my dinner in front of the computer. I do take precautions like I bringing a travel mug to the computer to prevent accidental spillages. I also make it a habit to clean my computer before starting to work in the morning. So, in answer to your question, I have not replaced my keyboard or mouse yet since I bought it.

Who will catch you, the computer police? :) I think not allowing your children to eat in front of the computer is a good rule. Its healthy for them and hygienic for you.

i really don't take note of those mundane things, marianna. besides, i don't drink my coke when i am working with my computer. so, you should not also bring your computer while cooking in the kitchen. also, there's no such thing as umbrella for keyboard or mouse. what those things need to last longer is a responsible user.

Well, I never eat or drink near my laptop. So I have never encountered any problem such as spilling something on the keyboard. Though there are times that dusts sets in, I just clean it by using a small vacuum. One time, I ask a friend to open my laptop and clean the inside most especially the keyboard. So far, I have not change my keyboard. The mouse that I am using right now is my second mouse. The previous one has been damaged already.

The keyboard I have now will be three years old come July. I do drink by the computer but I'm very careful and I have the glass or cup on top of my desk closer to the monitor. The keyboard is on the keyboard self of the desk which comes out from under the desk.

I have one of those silicone ones for my desktop, and as long as I proof read my reply before I post it's ok; sometimes not all the letters are there. But I need to make sure the reply makes since too.

ah is funny you should say that. When I am typing my keyboard's keys 8 and 7 stick. I too spilled soda on it, but is no fun cleaning it.

This response will sound strange, maybe even weird, but it is true. The number of times in a year that I replace a keyboard depends upon how many times my cat breaks the keyboard. I'm not joking here. He has removed keys from my laptop breaking resulting in needing to take it in for repair. In addition, he has broken about three other wireless keyboards over the past few years. My mice tend to hold up pretty well. I think overall I've replace on in 4 years. I like the new wireless type they are easier to use and seem to have less problems.
