I often make friend with person that is real. I see the avatar, read the profile. When I feel this is real person... I MAKE FRIEND.

Ok. The first we make friend base on feelings. But after time we can see which person is real or not.
Add friend is the first step in build relationship. Now we start to conversation...

I prefer to see the pic whom i am making friends with, to be fair. But still you have to be careful sometimes since a lot also been using fake pictures. Sometimes, I just don't trusts right away, know them well first before anything else.
