In these tough times, do you keep a "secret stash" of money/piggy bank?

I collect the quarters from the 50 states in a little jelly jar. It's not a lot of money, but if I sudden;y need change for coffe and can't get to the bank, they come in handy. One day, I caught my bf riffling through my coin jar. Well, he is habitually broke, but
I took offense that he was taking my money without asking. Had he asked beforehand, it wouldn't have been a problem. He didn't seem to understand what he had done....
Do you keep a "secret stash.?" Apparently, my "secret stash" is not so secret because he found it!

I keep a secret stash of money, but it's in the bank. LOL. We have a savings account that I take a little out of our checks each week and add to it so that it builds up a little more. We've had to pull some money out of that account every once in a while when something goes wrong, but that's really what it's for anyway, is so that we can pay for those unexpected occurrences in life.

My bf is not responsible like that. If he was more like you, we'd be married now.

I do. Although mainly because people who I live with would take it if they knew I had it. It's a security net, which I hope to not to have to use...to keep adding to, in the future.
It's really good to have a bunch of money hidden away in case of emergencies!

Gosh Paranoiax, in your profile it says you are 9! Is that a typo? You seem kind of gloomy and dark for someone so young. I don't think I knew what the word Paranoia meant when I was 9. And what kind of emergencies would a 9 year old have?

I'm actually a couple months away from eighteen. I just entered the age as younger as a joke, back in my troll battling days in mylot's earlier history. Heh. Just never really bothered to change the age...or the city, on my profile.

LOL. try to hide your secret stash somewhere else. Don't you have a common fund? Don't you share money? I leave my cash in my drawer. When she is short of cash she resorts to my wallet. If she is in a hurry and needs to buy a gas cylinder or some groceries she resorts to my wallet. When I am broke I resort to her. We cannot have a secret stash here as both of us seem to be able to find each others secrets.

Are you married? Let's put it this way, he wanted to buy me a $5dollar ring for an engagement ring. The man has never been able to give me money the whole time ~I have known him. He still owes me $160.

Hi coffegurl Yes I am. That's quite cheap! Why he did not use a curtain ring instead! Why is he so tight? Does he has a stable job? If not kick his butt and tell him to start earning money! :)

\No, I do not and I really want to start. I wish I had a separate savings account I could put money in every time I get paid and just "forget" about it. I have never been one to save change because I always figure I never know when I'll need exact change. Men I have dated in the past always get frustrated when I count out exact change because it sometimes takes time it seems like they would rather just give a whole dollar and get more change. It seems to be easier for guys to save change as they put it in there pocket and then put it in the jar when they get home as wallets don't really have a spot for change. You just got to try to remember to get the change out before you do laundry. I used to say any change I found in the washer or dryer I get to keep! That was my payment for doing laundry

I do keep cash on hand, generally locked up in a place nobody would think of in a container no one would think of. I use it to pay the man who does my lawn and to have on hand in case things go to hell and nobody is accepting plastic. I think it's important to keep a few dollars around for emergencies as well as everyday expenses.
Your bf needs his butt kicked. Sounds like bad news to me, you'd better have a talk with him.

I throw all my small change from shopping in a jar, which every now and then I change up for notes, although I wouldn’t really call it a secret stash. I let this build up over the year and then use whatever I have squirreled away for something I want but wouldn’t necessary buy if I was using my day to day money. I use to let it build up and then use it for a take away but then worked out that over a year it came to quite a bit so that’s when I set about leaving it for the whole year and putting it towards something bigger.

I do the same thing as I keep a jelly jar for all my coins. Once I fill up the jar I take it to one of those machines that here are in supermarkets and some banks and cash the coins for dollar bills. It is easier to do that than carry the coins around with me and falling out of my pockets. I will keep some change for tolls when I have to travel or for snack/soda machines but mostly will take the coins in my jar and cash them.

Yes I do but do not as much as I used to save. I pay everything now either online or with a debit card so I do not get much change.

I would really be upset if someone took something I was collecting without asking whether it was coins or anything else. He didn't have any business getting into your stuff, unless of course, you both have the habit of taking from each other without asking.
I have a few places for my secret stash and I forget sometimes that I have it.
I have a jar in the basement, no one else knows it's there and I put all of the change from the laundry in it that I find.
Last summer, me & my two sons went on vacation with change I had saved up.(it covered gas for 500 miles both ways)
I was reading somewhere where a couple had saved their change for years and ended up with 20 coffee can fulls of coins that added up to over $4,000.00.
I think you need a better hiding place (like someone else's house, maybe?) a lock box with your things you don't want to share or come to a clear understanding with him that you don't want him in your stuff unless he asks first.
I never liked the "what's yours is yours, what's mine is yours" thing.

We do throw our change in a jar. It's not much, but it has come in handy when we have needed gas in the car or a loaf of bread at the store. I would hide your "secret" stash somewhere else since he now knows where your is.

I try to keep a stash, but for some reason, my wife always seems to know when I have some money stuck back, and she manages to find a way to spend it. I think I am going to start lying to her and telling her that I don't have any extra money...LOL

Well I don't share anything with someone I'm not married too. Therefore I wouldn't have a girl friend living in my house, let alone using my money.
Alternatively, if I was married, then I wouldn't have a secret stash. We're together as one, in all things, including money. Instead I would simply budget an expense for blow money for things like coffee.

Not a secret one, no, but I also have a coin jar (which is almost empty at the moment because I just took the contents to the bank). That is the only stash I have at home!

I don't keep a "secret stash" because it is no point of doing so. My husband and I are all aiming the same goal, we are not a big spender anything like that, and we all where the money goes if we have extras then we will put those money into our saving account. We hope to save enough for our sons for their furture studies.

I have a little piggy bank, not really a piggey, it's a soccer ball, but it gets the job done. So, any small change I get from purchases I make, even from buying bread, I put into this piggy bank, When I see that it gets too heavy, I take out all the change and change it for paper bills and put it into my savings account! I can get from $1 to even $30 only in change! It's a great way to have money whenever there is an emergency since it's just change and you mostley forget about it until you relaly need it!

Oh yes I do. I have all the money I earned from various activities (nothing illegal, of course) and stash them somewhere in my room. That way I can always be sure that in case I go broke , I have my 'emergency money'. Haha!
