I have several pairs of matching ramekins that I use for my cats food. I just bought some new ones that are exactly the same shape and size as the others. But they are a deep red color and they seem to really like them much better than the white ones! They run to get the food from these yet stroll for the white ones.
Can cats see in color? I wonder if they are reacting to the red because of a hunting intinct maybe? The food is the same and they really like it. The only change is the color of the bowls. They are ceramic so no odors or anything as from plastic. It's amazing to see such a response! I'd have gotten them sooner if I'd known they were going to like them so much!
What do you think? Do your cats have favorite bowl colors?

Yep, cats can see in color. They don't have the same spectrum as humans, but they can see blues and green but have difficulty telling the difference between red, green, and yellow. Which would explain why they are interested in them :)
Our cats only had one option for their bowl color and it was a blue one.

I knew that they had to be able to see some colors but had no idea of which ones. Tho read being the color of blood, I thought that would be likely. I know human babies start with black and white and then red is the first real color they see. They really seem to like the red ones the best so I will save those for them only.

It is true that a recent discovory proves cats can see three main colors. Blue yellow, and I think either red or green. Though more and more, as you stated above your cats were attracted to the red bowls, maybe they can see red too. I know my cat Precious loves blue. And, yes cats can see a small portion of that all-to-famus color wheel.

I always wondered what colors they could see. Now it makes sense that they can tell my velvety blue blanket before they even step foot on it. They really like it alot and when it's washed I trade it out for another blanket to help keep my feet extra warm that is yellow and not velvety but soft cotton.
They leap onto the blue one and plop right down as they seem to love the velvet feel on their faces as they rub it again and again. The yellow one they can take or leave.
I was really amazed to see their reaction to the new bowls, the others were just white but the perfect size for wet food. So they share the ramekins but I'll keep the red ones just for them!
