Friends,
Have been wondering for a while, to work from home is a joy always?
Agree no boss, no orders, no targets, no breaks!!
For me, working from home is not a true joy! May be many of us has different reasons to work from home at the same time. When we digg the real truth behind working from home, the perfect answer would be NO - its not a joy.
One day yes, a week, a month is ok but not more!
A joy in expecting a weekend, a thrill in facing a monday, we will completely miss those if we work from home!
Fun with friends, joy of lunching together, ofcourse punctuality, discipline will be complete missed in home career.

I have been working and earning online for 10 plus yrs. And you are right you need to be disciplined. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I never miss a school event or special occasion or holiday and I can have lunch with a friend when I want.. I also can work in my pj's if I want to.
I have been doing it so long...I have my own work area. "Mom's Office" Because if you are really involved, then it is important to stay organized.
You mentioned no targets...you must set your own online goals for the day. I don't miss Mondays or weekends...as I also have a wonderful family. The weekends everyone is off (in fact we are taking the kids to brunch later today) and if I want to...I will get online for a while, like now....and Mondays everyone returns to school and work...so my days are defined...they do not blurrrr and run together. They all still have meaning.
Working at home may not be for everyone....but I wouldn't change a thing

I do love working at home and it is such a joy to me. I have a flexible schedule and I can work anytime I want. If I have to attend to something important I can go there and take care of it and then go home and work. I can even take my laptop and work in the internet cafe if I do get bored of my surrounding, I can take my work with me while I spend a week in a beach resort. This is what I love about the work at home online job.

It never occurred to me what "joys" there could be in working in an office, far from home. Of course, the thrill of going home after a long Friday is great, but after the weekend it's back to regular programming, and five more days of agony. For some people, this setup works, but I am more of the carefree kind. I hate routine so working 9 to 5 (in my case, 8 to 6) in another place everyday for five days drains me.
The bad thing, I agree with, is that when you work at home there is much more temptation to just lounge and not work. But I also agree with one commenter, who said it's discipline that should set things straight.

Things like displine start with you regardless if you have a boss, or if you are self-employed. It takes a lot of detication to sit down and do some actual work instead of sitting around and doing nothing all day long. Being self-employed can be a good thing because you set your own schedule And, no one to tell you what to do. You can set your own goals instead of someone else doing it for you and expecting you to fallow through. And, for some working-from-home is their only option Unless they want to see more of the public transit system and less of their homes or workplaces.

Hi VJ, working from home or a office has its own advantages and disadvantages, working from a office or work place is sometimes good, because you know what will you be paid at the end of the week or month, but times like recession can make you lose your job, some people make more money online but nothing is guaranteed. So they both have their own advantages and disadvantages....

It sounds good of course. No boss. No more waiting for the bus. Saves up a big sum of transportation money. However, I think it's hard for most of us to earn a decent sum. Also, you'll lose interaction with people in "real life".

exactly, the key is we won't be able to earn a decent money moreover the career progress that can happen, incase of software engineer starting as Trainee and growing till even CEO of the company.
Job based at home will be more montenous and changes are less, growth is almost not see.
Further life is to learn manythings which comes through with more interactions.
We can learn from others many things in life good or bad.
so would definetly working from home is good and comfortable whereas not a complete JOY in all terms to me.

Working from home will be a joy when we`ll make enought money to just work from home, without other job . It will be a joy , because we can have free time whenever we want, we`ll earn much more than on regular jobs, and we will afford a lot more than in the time we had real jobs . It will be a joy , because it will depend on how much we work .

yaah, working from home may not always bring the enough we need, it may flexuate month to month and day to day.But regular job will bring in a Guaranteed income which you can plan for! but not with the income from home work.

I think I will always have to have a job outside the home, even if it's just a couple days a week. I love the flexibility of working online, but I also value the friendships and interactions I have when I go to work. I need to get out of the house and do stuff. For some people working only from home works, just not for me.

I would prefer to work from home, set my own working hours, and enjoy my life around that. I am sure I would find more things thrilling than an anticipated weekend, or, even give myself a weekend.
I need my freedom! I think once I reach the position to work for myself, I will have much less stress, and be much more productive.

Working from home is ok to me as i can build my schedule around my kids schedules. The one thing i dont like about it is that i miss the social interaction of going to a job out of the home. I think mylots helps me to over come this part i miss about working outside the home. Here i can get that interaction with others and still work at home. I do try to schedule a lunch date with a friend so i can get out of the house and find creative ways to take my work with me so im not stuck in the house all the time.

There are a few advantages and some disadvantages. One is truly missing lunch and conversations with the friends. I find myself getting in a gloomy mood sometimes, and I know it's because I don't see very many people.

I have tried working from home and I have to say that it is nice at the same time boring if you do not have anyone to chat with. I went back in to working ina company because I felt I was missing out on making new friends and meeting other people. I have always been a people person who just loves to chat and have fun but at the same time work when needed. But I have to say, working at home gives you the benefit of eating from your shelves and you do not have to spend for anything since you are in the comfort of your own home.

I enjoy working from home for now, but of course I would like to get back out there in the working field. I just miss the comforts of going to a 9 to 5 job and being face to face with people. But the reason that enjoy working from home is that it get to set my own hours. I can work as little or as much as I like. I don't have to waste gas on traveling to and from a job. I start when I want and end when I want. I don't have to have a supervisor standing over my shoulder making sure that I am doing my job right. Then also, if I do my job wrong then it doesn't matter for the day. I can take vacations if I like and don't have to put in a request form to wait to be approved or not approved. I work on different sites and if I don't feel like working on certain things then I don't have to. I think although working from home doesn't replace a regular job, because I don't make much, it does contribute in some way. I'd rather work away from home, because I know that I would contribute more than I'd make from home and its a for sure thing that I will be making the amount all the time. Whereas if I am working from home, it is definitely not sure if I will always be making the same amount. So with that said, working from home has its downfalls and also its upside.

I think it is very convenient to work at home. I always wanted to have a homebased job and I am still looking for opportunities like that until now even though I am already working for a company. I am online english teacher in a company and I have discovered this past few months that is would be better to have direct contact students will help me earn more money but I dont know exactly where to find these people so I just stay. I am not quite satisfied with it but being here in the company is better than nothing.

It is how you view it. My entire family is working at home through online businesses. Some have work but some are working at home full-time. The longest time has been 2 months for my eldest sister and still she is having a blast. You are right. It varies from person to person. Aside from having no boss, I'm not pressured to do certain things, no deadlines and no more commute for me. Plenty of excess time for me as well.
