I'm thinking of making a yo-yo quilt & don't know how to go about it. Has anyone here made one? I know Clover makes the little gadgets to make the yo-yo's in different sizes but what did people use before this clever little gadget?

what i used to do was to trace a round glass for my circle, cut it out and then sew it together. i dont think they were perfectly round but pretty close to it.

I read some of the instructions for the old time yo-yo's & that is what they said to do. Use a template of whatever size you want.. glass, cup, saucer, thread spool... whatever. Then fold a 1/4 inch seam & sew it. The little gadget that I got from Clover does it for you. You are limited in the sizes.. I bought 2 sizes & don't know if they make more... but the sewing is a snap. Makes the draw thread stitches uniform & easy to work with. Now, if I can maintain my interest long enough to make enough of those little buggers to finish a quilt for my friend's Barbie doll. Lord knows I don't have enough patience to make enough to make a real quilt. :)

It's wood, people makes use of a perfectly rounded wood to make a yo-yo. I could still remember that little gadget made by my uncle for me. Wood can really be very easy to carve especially when you have the sharp tools and you can shape it to what ever shapes that you would wanted your yo-yo to be.
