I just won't. If I click on a discussion starter and see that it is like a page or so long I just won't even bother. It would have to be real interesting for me to even start reading it. I click on some things that sound interesting but if I open it and it looks like I book I just click "back!" Do you read really long discussion starters?

yeah, the first couple of lines have to really catch me for me to stay with it. I don't like reading books. It also depends on my mood at the time. If I am kinda down then I won't do it because I want everything quick and easy.

I don't always read really long posts. I've opened some posts and seen a page or more of text. No paragraphs, no breaks. Then I usually just go on to the next post if I don't find the subject extremely interesting. It's easier with paragraphs and breaks.

I hear ya on that one! Me too! (Unless there was something super up there that grabbed my attention and I just have to find out the end of the matter!)

It all depends on the article and the subject.
Well-written, easy to read, and an interesting topic/point of view and I will read it no matter how long it is.
If it is all just one giant paragraph, poorly written, and/or just a rambling rant - I get out no matter how long or short the discussion is.

Yep! The thing is if the longer ones are real interesting and well written I can stay with it. If it's just a page with no paragraphs and all I just don't usually hang around too long for those!

I read a lot here and often they are really long posts too. If the topic is interesting then I will read them right through.
Often, but not always, those that are set out just too nicely and very long with several paragraphs are not original and I usually realise that after a few lines and then report them after I find the source.
I find that long topics often give more opportunity to respond with a long post too.

I rarely respond with a long post. But then reading and posting do depend on the topic. It would have to be really interesting to keep me interested though! I know we need three lines or so to get proper credit, but come on!!

I don't write (type) depending on earnings. It depends on what I have to say. Just like offline when someone starts a conversation, I don't count the words that I use to respond to them. I just continue talking until I have finished the particular topic that I am talking about and I find that to be the case here.
As long as it's fun and interesting I will keep on typing, sometimes long posts and sometimes shorter ones.

yeah, but if it's not interesting I just don't have anything to say. I'll move on!

If the writer can write in paragraphs, rather than a huge chunk of texts, I usually will enjoy reading those.
I have seen many times here, that people just squeezing everything, and form a wall of texts. Even they are interesting topics, it will just make eyes hurt.
With some space in between is much easier on the eye, and you can actually start reading what the poster has to say. Writing format is as important as writing skill, is like branding a product, if you don't make your work appealing, few will read it no matter how good it is.
So again I have no problem with interesting long posts, as long as the poster knows how to make their work easy to read.

If it is too bunched together I will skip it most of the time no matter what the level of interest! I do read a few of them if they are spaced appropriately. Unless it just really catches me though when I see the huge amount of print I go back and look for another discussion!

I do read long posts, especially if it is about life issues of friends. I respond to posts that I think I can contribute to and only ones of interest.

If a topic interests me then I will have a look but if that discussion is a page long, then I often lose interest if it rambles on.

macdingolinger I do not mind long ones nearly as much as he short one liners, and the stupid comments that are only thanks for reply. have a good day. say what y ou comment on my response and its not worth a real comment, tell me what you think? if the post is long and on something I cannot help with like some sports, yes I will pass by, but if its by one of my close mylot friends I will indeed read it all and answer it too.
short is not really all that good on mylot as so many shorts are like this, what is your favorite flavor of ice cream? what is your favorite song? what is your favorite color?? all can be answered in one word.thats a discussion?

I pretty much agree with you. I read my friend's posts usually. It really depends on the way it is typed up though too. If it is all run together it has to be real interesting to keep my attention.

not always, as long as there is of interest to me then I will put some sentences in the discussion. I also have to understand about what topics will be made in the discussion, I passed some discussion, I choose not to answer a few because there are other people who have already answer it.

I don't read other answers before I answer. I want my answer to be straight from my own thinking and upfront. If I read the other posts first I may not put my initial response there as I will think it through in a different manner.

It has to grab me right away for me to read the whole discussion. I have done it though because the discussions was so interesting. However, if I start out the first two lines with it not making any sense or just not a subject that I have knowledge about I just go to the next discussion. I try my best to keep the discussion to a mininum.

Yes, I do read them as long as they look interesting enough, becuaswe in order for me to get the idea of what the discussion starter is trying to say, then I do need to read it, so I can respond properly. I will admit though, that there are some that really aren't all that interesting, and when I start reading and it isn't interesting, then I will just move on to anpother discussion, as I only respond to those that are interesting and have a topic that I can relate to. Lately, though, I haven't seen all that many long discussions, as they are just a few lines long if that. There have been a lot of one liners posted lately, and those really aren't discussions, just statements, and I just won't respond to those most of the time. All in all, if the discussion is long and interesting, I will read it and respond to it. Good luck to you and happy myloting.

Yeah, of course. It would be stupid not to. But it also depends on the quality. If the person cannot at least give us some hint of what they're trying to get to in a sentence or two, i usually skip that discussion and find something else worth reading (or responding to).

Yeah, you have to catch me up front or I will move on. Now if you catch me up front and it is real interesting I will try to get through the whole thing!

Exactly! With so many posts to read and go through each day, it can be quite a challenge for anyone to capture somebody else's attention, especially with long posts. So, there goes! You need to give your readers an idea of what to expect or they'd get bored!

Hi, macdingolinger. Yes, I usually will read long discussions if I feel in the mood to. I like to read them so that I can answer them and give an response to it. When members take the time to read my long discussions I will do the same with theirs too. Sometimes, if I don't understand an lengthy discussion, I will just pass over it and not read it.

I don't often read long posts. I have limited time on the computer and I would like to spend it wisely. But if the topic is interesting enough, I would read the whole post.

well i guess it depends if it from someone i know really well sure i will take a look at it, but sometimes and it happens with me too from time to time we will just go on a little longer then we should and sometimes we forget to get to the point so we don't lose people who are trying to get involved into the discussion.
If one of my friends has made the discussion the least i can do is take a look at it just because it is long doesn't mean its not a good discussion and i am a bit of a quick reader so maybe it does not bother me as much as it does others.

i generally dont go for long posts. if they are upto 10 lines long, i muster courage to go with them but if they are more than that, then i dont go for them generally.
but if they seem to be interesting in some exceptional cases i also go with them but mostly i prefer 4,5 lines discussions only.
