England fans must be sad and disappointed that one of their favorite veterans is being forced out of the team through a horrible unforeseen injury. Playing earlier and spectacularly too, in the Italian League match for AC Milan against Chievo came off the pitch with a ruptured Achilles tendon, thus ending his dreamed four World Cup appearance a first for an England player and a chance to close in on England's former goalkeeper Peter Shilton's international appearance record of 125 caps. He is currently on 115. What a disaster and disappointment? My heart really goes out for David Beckham here. Que Sera Sera, whatever will be, will be..... I like Aaron too, but of late he is becoming quite predictable. So, I just hope that he will be able to mature and most of all peak in time for the tournament. In a game like soccer, you can find your team going down from the start and I am sure you are aware that we will always need people like a Beckham to bring the tempo up and team back. So, let's wait and see if the selected replacement will be making statements or something else. Have a nice day.

adhyz82, All I can say now that everyone including Shaun, Downing and etc., will have an equal fighting chance for that vacated position and I really hope that they will mature and hold up at play when the tournament begins. I feel terrible for David Beckham to go out like that and that this injury may also end his playing career as well. This is really beyond any words for me to describe England's and World Cup 2010's lost. Hi skysuccess, I do not think that losing David Beckham will harm England preparation for the 2010 South Africa World Cup. There is no doubt about his ability. He is one of the top passer and ability to deliver accurate set pieces. But under Fabio Capello, England use more pace to break any opponent resistance then concentrate to a set pieces. They need more speed especially in right and left flanks. In this case, Fabio Capello have more choices in Shaun Write-Phillips, Aaron Leanon and Theo Walcott. Even with David Beckham in the team, he rarely start for England under Fabio Capello. He usually come as substitute in the second half. It is sad to see David Beckham got injured but his time is over and I think he should look to another job after his latest injury.

akuler, I just beg to differ otherwise as David Beckham is really in a class of his own. If not, I am sure coach Capello, would not have gone to ends and pains to get him to play in AC Milan to bring his physical and match experience to make it for the World Cup squad. Unfortunately, we have not been able to see any wingers that are able to cross with confidence, accuracy and most of all consistency to this day. I suppose that is where a David Beckham here is making a world of a difference, even if he were to be coming on from the bench. His skills and signature play is just so much essential here. I just hope that his replacements will mature and bloom in time for the tournament and I am not sure what future plans David Beckham might have as his playing career is really looking very bleak here. Well, please correct me if I am wrong but David's move to AC Milan was actually dated as far back as in 2008 when he was actually benched at Real Madrid. And, if I may dare add here that England boss Fabio Capello warned Beckham that he needs to be playing regularly in Europe or be dropped. I do agree that Beckham has to agree to play for AC Milan, but let's not forget the team which he managed to play for till this injury was actually aided by Capello who rang Adriano Galliani, the Milan managing director, to vouch for Beckham's character and professionalism before the Italian club agreed in principle to the deal. Ref: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/european_football/article4996431.ece Like I've said earlier, I have not been able to see any wingers that are able to cross with confidence, accuracy and most of all consistency to this day and that will include seasoned players like Frank Lampard (inconsistent), Steven Gerard (temperamental) and Joe Cole - my goodness, I wonder if you've seen him lately (overweight). I think what sets Beckham apart from those I have named here is consistency and when the team is behind Beckham ALWAYS shines for the occasion. On the hindsight, I am not placing my money on successful professional league players like Messi and the likes where I have a hunch will under perform and no offense. Considering the bleak economic times, mortality of a player's career and the risk of picking up a career ending injury. And, I just hope that this will not be a dampener for 2010 World Cup. Keeping my finger's crossed and await your corrections here.

It is Beckham who want to play for AC Milan, and Fabio Capello never ask him to do it. What Capello want from his players is keep fit and play a lot games. So, Beckham has no choice because US Majaor League Soccer (MLS)has a break now and in ordet to keep his fittness, he need to train and play regularly. He can find it in AC Milan. There is no doubt about Beckham abillity especially in the set pieces, but England have a lot of player who can do just like that. They have Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard for that task. I think Joe Cole will take England right flank and set pieces job with go to Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard. The only thing that I am sure there is hard to find a replacement is Beckham determination. He alwasys shown his 100% commitment in his games.

Now, I will admit that I am not a fan of professional soccer/futbol. However, David Beckham is an athlete to whom I am familiar with. This is terrible news for him. He had the potential of being able to achieve great things with the World Cup and now he doesn't have that opportunity. I hope that his recovery from the injury that he has had will be as smooth as it can possibly be and that he will be able to return to his sport after adequate recovery.

edxcast, A great role model indeed and I must admit the only player so far that has not appeared on the tabloids for all the wrong reasons. From the latest news, it seems like his playing career is on the line as well and I just hope that this injury is not a devastating one. England will miss his service and invaluable experiences. a98231, I feel that it could also be that age is catching up with this wonderful player. You can imagine how hard and much he had put in to be what he is today. Injury is inevitable in a such a physical sport like soccer and as we age, I am sure you will agree with me that recovery will not only take a longer time but can be permanent too. It is just sad to see a wonderful player's career end like that, so bad luck is not solely responsible here. Have a nice day.

Although I am not a fan of David Beckham but I like him. He is one of the good-looking soccer players and this is why I like him:) It will be a disappointed that we can't see him in the World Cup this year. But perhaps he will still go to South Africa and cheer for England team. I love China

youless, Well, he is indeed good looking and a great role model as compared to many other players who are all running into headlines of all sorts. I am sad to see him go out of the 2010 World Cup tournament like that and the latest I have is that his playing career may be over for him too. This injury that he has picked up is really a great blow here and I just hope that the latter is not going to be true. Although it's not going to be confirmed yet that he will miss the World Cup It does not look very likely but I won't give up hope until we hear that he is definitely out of the World Cup which would probably be next month given his recovery time scale. This is very sad news for England. I would be very surprised if we won the World Cup now as his replacements on the right wing cannot cross the ball. They may have pace but none of them has done enough to stake a claim.

lakerfanster, My exact sentiments here. But, this injury is really a devastating one as his playing career is also on the line from the latest news. I just hate to miss his wonderful and signature crosses and free kicks which is non comparable. I hope that the replacement wingers will get their act together and mature in time with their play, where hopefully we may see a birth of another star bringing the game to another level and most of all to the opponents. So, let's keep our fingers crossed. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1258356/Beckham-begins-month-recovery-Posh-makes-mercy-dash-LA-Finland.html

It's a shame he is out of World Cup, but I'm think, at moment, David being there or not England has a weak team, and his presence won't make any difference on english team campaign.

bigcheese, It's a shame indeed and if the latest news of it is being true - then, devastating too, as his playing career may just be over. However, I do not see England as a weak team in this World Cup as the team has come far under their new coach, Capello. And, if I may say this, that your comment may be a little premature or rather too early to write them off as a weak team. England, has shown quite a turnaround as far as consistency is concerned and if you had been following their qualifying round matches, has been growing from strength to strength. Capello's appearance is not only timely but God sent, as we witness a totally changed and dedicated team. He really knows what to do and that no nonsense discipline is really working. Frankly, I just would not be writing off England and if I may add this team is worth placing some money on in your bets.

Honestly, david was the top 10 midfield in the world if he keep the good health.I am so regret that he will miss his final world cup and his dream.Beacause this time is the best choice to win the cup for his carrer.England have best caoch, best Roonie,if Beckham will join this team, team's bench strength will be improved. And david' experice will help england go far in the tournament. Anyway,Everyone must have their life whenver happen.Best wish for David, good luck!

terrencechen, It is indeed a pity that England's David Beckham will not be able to participate in the forthcoming 2010 World Cup as a player. It is also depressing that his playing career may come to an end as well through this injury and this is really a sad way to end a career. A real double whammy if I might say here.
