I recently visited the Jane Austen Society webpage and found some of the comments interesting. I had not read Jane Austen until last year; after reading Pride and Prejudice, I was entraced by the beauty of her words. More than just that, however, I was astounded how, two hundred years ago, she was describing feelings that are still relevant to the uncertainty of falling in love.
Alot of the comments on the webpage were about the romance part of the novels, instead of the depth of the works. Anyone else appreciate the language along with the romance of the novels?

hi Sandra15 oh I did not know there was a Jane Austen society webpage, I will have to read it , I love her work, specially Pride and Prejudice as it was fascinating to read, the language as well as the romance of the
novels. She was very insightful into the feelingsof the people and into the conceits and foibles of the times.I loved how she pictured those women who fawned over Jane and yet were really so insincere too. lovely writing and I read and reread Pride and Prejudice over and over. Yes its something to think that she described feelings that we still have today. really a great author to survive a
fter so many many years.

Also check Northanger Abbey, friend. I loved the heroine there for exactly the oposite reasons that I loved the heroine of Pride and Prejudice.

I have been a Jane Austen fan for decades. When I first read them, maybe when I was young, I loved the romance part and had my preferences depending on the heroine. But in rereadings I started to notice the space that was shown. What I mean is: the gentlemen and gentlewomen at a certain time in England. That was equally fascinating as it opened my eyes to other readings from that epoch. The lenguage is very rich and it helped me a lot with my own learning of English (not my native language).
Lately, almost all Jane Austin´s novels have been made into quite good movies. I´m glad of that too as the younger generation does not read as much as mine did and I would not want them to miss Jane Austen completly.
