have you revealed your email password or any other like net-banking, bill payments, etc. to anyone in your family or closest friend?? I have done this - revealed to my wife and daughter- this because in case of emergency and I am not able to access - similarly we have each others' passwords but we respect everyone's privacy and do not open others' mails unless asked specifically

Hello udayrao, good evening. To answer your questions, yes I've revealed my email password and to my mom and family. This is for emergency purposes as well. Just in case there is something will happen to me. I am living away from them, so if something happens to me then they can open the email and see the conversation i have with other person. I am just being cautious of all of this.

I think also the way you think- in case of an emergency situation someone should know the passwords before it is too late.

I would do this only to my family or one of my closest friends. Revealing your password to someone is not a joke and I think we should be very carefull doing that.

Close Family OK - but even the closest friend I would not do, this because one friend who I thought was my best & closest lost my trust after he told someone what I had confided in - no not about passwords etc- but after that I am very careful

Probably he wasn't so close and faithful to as as you thought so you should be very careful about things. A person can always make a mistake and misjudge people. that is why we learn from our mistakes and not do that again.

The only person who knows any of my passwords is my partner and he only knows the password to the really important accounts. He's doesn't know my password on here

I don't reveal email passwords for accounts that are related to any money or important sites. For one, nobody knows my paypal password and I have no intention of telling anyone about it. As for my facebook account, my brother knows about it because he follows-up my games. I think it depends on the content and purpose of these emails, if it's just for fun and no damage will happen should the password go out in the open, then that's fine. But if the contents of the emails are personal (like account numbers, or anything involving business or work) then I guess that should be kept secret.

I did not mean ' out in the open" but among someone you trust, and as I said this is only in case of emergency - this happened only once when I had to pay the bills and I was hospitalised so I asked my daughter to check mail of any importance as well as pay the bills online as the last date of payment was on me.

Well I've exchanged a couple of passwords with my mother. We know each-others banking passwords and e-mail once too. It's useful when me or my mother is not at home, but needs some to get some e-mails sent or many transactions made. And of course it's good for emergency situations.

My husband has access to the checking account because it is in both of our names. I have his school information because I am the one who goes into the account to get his school work and print off whatever he needs. I have his email information and he has mine, but he and I never check each others emails without permission. I think you are doing the right thing by allowing your wife and daughter access to this information.

No, I really have not revealed it to anyone. Granted, its not a lack of trust for me. Its just being too paranoid for my own good. I mean, there is always a chance that someone even if you trust them, could allow the information slip to someone else. People do make mistakes and also another reason is that if that person gets angry, they could do something with my account. Its just better off to not even take that chance. Plus, there is just some information that should not be told to anyone. I refuse to leave anything to chance. Family members can be trusted, but at the same time, there is a chance that your information can be compromised. The less people who know the secret, the better as far as I am concerned. And since the fewest number of people is one, so much the better.

Well, generally no one will revealed their passwords to any one. but some you need to reveal your passwords, reasons may be many, due to emergency, revealing passwords will demand the suituation, and whom we are revealing the passwords, does he/she will maintain your privacy, unless untill we don't consider all this points, should not reveal our passwards.

I and my husband have made some agreement about every password that i and my husband have. the agreement is we should know every password each other. i use some book note about our password. i write down all our passwords in that book. and only me and my husband who know the book and the content. it is convensional but it helps for us.

I have never given an email password, a digital passcode or an atm pin number to anyone. I can however understand the logic behind giving this type of information to a spouse. This is someone whom you supposedly trust with your life so you should definitely feel comfortable trusting them with any password information. Now an alternative to this is to just set up most accounts jointly. By doing this you can eliminate any "red tape" someone may have to go through in order to conduct business as usual in the case that you are incapacitated for an extended period of time.
