ok here is a list of treatment i've used during the past 3 years or so, i have chronic knee pain for 4 years now, i'm on a new hybrid treatment, check my other discussion.
1- massage and all that goes with it- these can only alleviate the pain for some time but soon you'll find yourself addicted to it! it solves nothing. what you need is a specific type of massage.
2- anti inflammatories, tons of pills, the same effect but this time you run the risk of screwing up your kidneys, also it the pain is very high i recommend only 3 days of this, gos knows how many i've taken and all that following a docs prescription.
3- doctors! this time i mean the non sport doctors, for any sport injury consult a specialist! not the family doc!
4- long period of rests! these muscle need to have a certain level of stress to be able to minimize the damage and if your muscle (quadriceps) becomes weaker because of sedentary life style, trust me the pain is going to increase every day.
5- surgery! doc tells i need surgery, another said its not necessary, listen to your body,if you can walk you dont need surgery but time!
6- cold therapies, forget about the RICER method , works onlyu after you injured yourself not after 3 years or even 1 year! apply heat and here i recommend only the C ! compression only, touch your knee during the day or when you woke up, have you ever notice that they were a lot cooler than the rest of your body!
conclusion: your mind and your time are your only two enemies! you have to do what it takes!

i have another post where i explain the methods i'm using, each two weeks i will update it on any improvements i've made so far, this test will go for the whole year of 2010. i just hope that by the end of this year or before i can go back to my activities permanently.
